What length of whip?

Been reading many many threads as I start building a starter unit for residential work…no roofs.

Having a whip seems like a smart thing to do. Trying to use equipment best practices as I go, as much as I can afford as I build.

Getting a 5.5 GPM 2500 PSI from Pressure Tek. It of course comes with 50 foot of hose.

My plan is to load that on to the reel, then add another 150’ of United non-marking Gray.

I have the ball valve with the most mosmatic swivel - but I think I might need to switch out Parts I might have the male and female ends backwards, as I just learned on another thread…

I’m only 5’ 4" with a little shorter than average arms even for my height. I’ve read where some people are getting 8 foot whips some people are getting 5 foot whips and some 2 foot whips.

It seems like a 2-foot would make sense to keep that coupler off the ground, but then it also seems like it would make that gun start to get awfully darn heavy with a ball valve and another coupler.

But then having it 8 foot or five foot long and banging around on the ground is got its own set of problems…

What’s your whip setup and your rationale for it?

Many thanks. What started out as just doing a couple little jobs for people kind of as a favor is morphing into a full-blown business… funny how life goes.

Really appreciate the wisdom and wit you all share so freely!

One day I’ll be a Yoda too!

Put the 150 on first. Hose blows closer to the gun. 50 is cheaper than 150.

I don’t use whips. I have some. Never took the time to set them up. But they’re so cheap buy 3 of them and see what you like best.

Well there goes my logic of thinking it was better to not have the connection to deal with in the early part and keeping it back so it only is an issue after a hundred fifty feet of hose!

Thanks!

Well that’s a good idea. I’m probably going to need some for the buffer tank and the bypass and all that good stuff.

Of course. But the sacrificial whips are personal preference.
