What about getting into cleaning (out) gutters?

I currently do pressure washing but am thinking of being able to offer, as an add-on, not just the cleaning of the edgs of the gutters, but cleaning the actual gutters themselves out of leaves, debris, etc. Anyone have experience in adding this as a service, and what is the general charge for it? And what basic equipment do you recommend/need for this? I already have a pressure washer and a telescopic pole, a Mr. Reach.Thanks.

They are nasty, dead animals and what not.
Specially if they have plants growing.
If you plan to offer it be prepared to unclog spouts too.
When i do clean them i always warn the cust about potential clogging, if that happens its extra charge.
For thy hat you need special tips and hose.

Forgot if clients just wants gutters cleaned on the inside… upsell the house too… gutters are nasty,… but good money

There’s plenty of info in the PWRA about that.

I use a ladder, disposable black gorilla gloves, 3" putty knife and black trash bags. About a dollar a foot.

Garden trowel and a plumbing snake to try to unclog downspout. I do it from a ladder if I need to, and from on the roof if I can. I try not to do it at all to tell you the truth. Gutters suck.

I do not use nor get on ladders

$1 wow, diff markets

I started using this on an extendable pole (12 ft I think). Works AWESOME!! Less ladder moves. I pull stuff to me and pull it out by hand into a pail as of now. Thinking about modifying the pail t in some way, maybe cut the bottom out and secure a larger bag of some type to it so the pail holds it open. 7 gallon pail fills up rather quickly if the gutters are full. Looking for a full pail with gutters cleaned 12 foot each way of ladder. theguttertool.com

Here’s a pic of a gutter I did the other day at a lakeshore area cabin. I did not rinse it. (the downspout is missing off the end anyway) Under the dry pine cones and pine needles was about 3 years of soggy, wet, nasty, muddy pine needles and stuff. The tool worked great and I only moved the ladder twice. Had a couple extra up and downs because the pails filled so fast which is why I want to come up with a better containment system. Started doing gutters this year with this tool. All I can remember is a few years ago, what a pain it was do do my own gutters moving the ladder all the time and the stupid gutter hanger nail things getting in the way. On this roof, all I could think about was, if a cat had and ■■■, this would be it! The company suggested a 6-12 extendable Sherlock Pole. I think I went up one size. It’s a little heavier and beefier and I was debating if it would be too unwieldy, (it is a little awkward when your working close to you, but the extra stoutness is appreciated when it’s extended all the way). Hope this helps.

With a putty knife you’d be able to do the wall of that gutter. Imo that’s not clean yet

The blade on the tool works pretty well. It fits just right in the bottom channel. To be honest, I was so exited about how well the tool worked that I moved the ladder back and took the “after” pic before I forgot. I’m absolutely horrible at remembering to take good before and after pics. This was a neighbor’s place next to mine that I did for free. I gotta put the downspout on soon and I’ll do this again the fall and not forget to get the sides, but thanks for pointing that out.

Gutter cleaning is a pain and I try to avoid it. However is important that someone cleans them out

Agreed gutter cleaning sucks. I charge a $1-$2 per linear ft though so its worth it to me. Also usually the entire gutter system isny dirty. Only a portion of it. I still charge them for the whole thing though because I dont inspect beforehand.
