Was my quote too high?

Customer wanted hos deck stripped of thompson water seal cleaned amd resealed with same product he provided. Also was cleaning a small stair set and sidewalk. I told him $350. The deck surface was 368 square feet. Just sent him the estimate an hr ago and see ge just posted on facebook looking for pressure washing service and that i just gave him a mini stroke lol from start to finish id have close to 3.5 hrs invested i predict. Thoughts?

NO…bid was not too high.

Move on to the next bid…let him find someone in his price range, he may be short on money.

Haha thats where im at just wanted a second opinion. He was very brief and didnt give me much of a chance to explain anything. Kinda hope he doesnt call now anyway lol. I noticed on his fb hes retired navy. Had he conversed with me more than 5 min id have asked him if he was military cuz i give all military and seniors 10% off

Sounds like he’s trying to play general contractor and he just wants a laborer for $15/hour.

I have found in my other businesses, that I’d rather go broke at home in the A/C than working in the heat for free.:grinning:

Hmmm interesting. Your go getter attitude is inspiring

Thank you.

No point in wasting your time, move to the next client. I know my numbers, and I will not win every bid, but it puts me one person closer to that deal.

Big red flag is when clients want to provide the materials. Only once in my early career did I need to fall for that one. I have to agree with Instock, they just want cheap service/labor.

I look at it this way, if you know better what materials I should be using then you don’t need me to begin with. Time to walk away.

Side story:
I had a guy last week scoff at me for quoting him $900 to repair his swiss cheese chimney (EIFS). I asked him what he thought was a fair price was and he said 200. I pulled out two bills and asked him if I could watch him climb a ladder and do it himself, he goes, " Hell no! I’m a doctor! I pay people to climb ladders for me!". Dead silence.

He then asks me if I will warranty if the birds come back and make more. I asked him if he patches up my bum knee today and I screw up it again next week if he’ll fix that for free. Dead silence.

Some people need stupid answers for their stupid questions. It’s the only way they relate.

When I wrote up that proposal I made it $1500. You’ll learn quick when to bid like you don’t want it.

That’s awesome… You need to secretly video record your next client that acts like that. I would’ve loved to seen it!
