Hard starts / surging off load/ poor fuel economy/ missing some power. This is usual Signs you need a valve job. This bike s easy to figure out. Remove the valve cover and look for exhaust leak signs. Chances are if you have high hours you will see some leakage.
There is no quick fix heads have to come off to reseat the valve. But when your done your engine will feel like new again. Without spending $2000 on a new one .
Little elbow grease and some know how.
These valve seats are actually better than new at this point. Factory does not lap valves ever.
Legend!! Thanks for sharing with us.
Iโm over getting guys to do this kind of stuff for me and being disappointed by unprofessional work.
Iโm learning as I go and trying to do the best I can.
Self taught? YouTube? Where did you learn? Iโve never been into fixing engines. I can build a computer, fix phones, etc. I never tried to mess with engines, always paid to have them repaired. Iโm sure Iโm capable. Itโs getting more and more appealing doing this line of work where lost time = lost money. May I should buy some junk motors and get to tinkering. YouTube has taught me many of things.
Just a quick tip for lapping valves. Instead of using the little wooden valve lapping sticks and turning them by hand find a short piece of fuel hose that fits the valve stem nice and tight. Find a drill bit or round stock about the same size. Run the valve through the head and install hose on the stem and drill bill. You can then push forward a tad to add your valve grinding compound. Then just barely pull the trigger and pull back with a little pressure.
On the small engines like these I use a power drill. On bigger stuff I have a valve grinding machine. It takes to long to set up so I donโt use it that much
Itโs just something Iโve been doing since I was a kid . I bought my first dirt bike in pieces in a box when I was 12 and Iโve been doing it ever since. My father is an aircraft mechanic so as a kid thatโs weโre i learned.
