Under bed SH tank build

Here’s a project I did friday and today. I had a 35 gallon leg tank on my truck that I used for chlorine. To save space, I decided to get a 42 gallon rectangular RV water tank and build a mount for it to go underneath the bed in between my truck’s frame rails.

The tank and the spot between the frame it will go in.

Math and stuff I insisted I would never use after graduation.

Processing: 20211001_185031.jpg…

Results of the math, ready to be welded.

Mount partially finished.

Tank and mount in position. Still need to make a guard to protect it from road debris and plumb it up.

You may notice the zip tied license plate. I just welded this bed up recently and have yet to add a mounting spot for the plate.

I love it. Lower center of gravity, keeps the SH out of the sun, and less spillage on your equipment (assuming you have some kind of remote filling setup with check valves or whatever?)

Love the math, as well. I was that nerd that as soon as I learned the basic trigonometric functions, I found a real world application for it (sizing roof trusses for an addition we put on our house. I was 14) :joy:

The filling setup is pretty simple. There is a few feet of kuritek coming off the side of the tank to a female stainless steel qc fitting. The filling hose has a stainless female, so hook them up and pump away. The corner of the tank has a vent hose. No check valves.

Although it did just occur to me that I could’ve just pumped sh in through the outlet at the bottom, it would’ve easily overcome the head pressure. There was no need for me to open up another hole at the top. Oh well, it will work fine still.

That is neat! Holds the SH tank and ties the 2 chassis rails together. Well thought out :ok_hand::ok_hand:

Thank you!

If anybody rear ends you it’s going to be like a Michael Bay movie

Fair point. Should move the jerry can somewhere else…

I probably would. Or at least just move it up onto the bed. Nice truck, btw!

That’s awesome! I always like seeing clever ideas. Seems we can never have too much space.

Thank you! Mount it to the back of the headache rack, perhaps?

That’d probably work as long as it’s at least a few feet away from any heat sources like machine exhausts

That wouldn’t be a problem. Machine is at the back of the truck.
