Maybe you should leave again and come back when you are rinsed inside out

Is this true?

I often refer to my business as family owned since my wife plays such a huge part in it and my father also helps in the day to day running. I personally started it though and never heard anything like this before. I would gladly stop saying it, but I was unaware.

no its not.
you are good @Sharpe you can keep saying it.

There are a few definitions. I’d say if your wife plays a role and your father helps out it is most certainly falls under the category of a family business. However, I think a lot of people use it to mean “I have a family and I run a business”, which would be the case for just about every business ever so it wouldn’t really mean anything.

that is going on a tangent

I don’t think you know what that means. Actually, I can say with 100% certainty you don’t know what that means, because what I said was directly related to what he was curious about.

Being family owned has zero to do with a business being passed down thru generations. It simply means at least 2 family members own or work in the business.

IBS using google? When did this start?

As I said, there are multiple definitions. From wikipedia: “A family business is a commercial organization in which decision-making is influenced by multiple generations of a family — related by blood or marriage or adoption — who has both the ability to influence the vision of the business and the willingness to use this ability to pursue distinctive goals. They are closely identified with the firm through leadership or ownership. Owner-manager entrepreneurial firms are not considered to be family businesses because they lack the multi-generational dimension and family influence that create the unique dynamics and relationships of family businesses.”
