This look normal?

It is normal to be this drastic? Hot Florida day with fresh SH. Was spraying 3-4% through proportioner with surfactant at 2 on the dial. The roof only a couple years old. Left it on there, should i go back and rinse today (may rain later)? Thanks

I don’t pretend to know roof washing but if that roof is only two years old it hasn’t had much chance to collect growth and I suspect the grey is the actual color.:grimacing:

I dearly hope the other guys chime in and say it’s fine.

To my knowledge there’s nothing 4% can do to asphalt shingles…it’s FL, surely it’s rained by 5:30 PM? Go check it out again. It’s not normal for it to look different colors like that though. Did you not finish treating it? It may be what @dcbrock said… usually you don’t get growth that early, but builder’s grade shingles in a neighborhood where they all have the algae it’s easily possible I would guess. It only takes it a few months to start once it gets the bacteria on there.

Never seen one change color like that….shouldn’t of had much organics on a new roof, it usually takes some years. Not sure there.

I’m certainly not a roof expert by any means but here’s my $0.02 on the above photo:

  • Red Box shows area where no mix came in contact with shingles
  • Blue box shows where you sprayed mix
  • Green arrows show where you need to spray mix again (either stubborn build up or spray pattern was inconsistent)

It’s hard to say what original roof shingle color was. First roof I ever did the front of the house had black colored shingles on it when I first saw it. Customer told me that they hoped I could make them green again. I was totally confused as to what they were looking for. They walked me to the backside of the house and I could see that most of the shingles were indeed green. I washed the roof and made the customer happy. Attached photo is fuzzy and doesn’t show the final results as I had some touch-up work left to perform.

What kind of soap are using?

I went back and rinsed today and it defiantly looks better. And as @PPWofLexSC mentioned i hit those spots again just to make sure. Just crazy how a newer roof looked that way. Will update with pictures soon
