The Darkside Of Gear Drive

Youll need a heatsink.

I build these for fun, I’ve seen a few cranks in my time

@MuscleMyHustle this is the oil drain cap from my gear drive. 1st oil change and it’s way past 50 hours. Cap was full of metal flakes and a few long shards. I’m guessing this is a problem. It’s also been leaking oil where it meets the engine. I’m hoping it’s just missing an o-ring. This week it just started making a noise and loss of flow almost surging.

The shavings on the magnet itself is common for the break in period as the gears mesh together. The long shards are excessive. I would email those pictures to Udor or, the place of purchase, and see if they’ll warranty it out. Maybe email the Udor service department first and explain your issues and the excessive shards of metal. I’m getting ready to do the first 50 hour oil change on a gear drive so will take pictures for comparison.

When you get it off, can you post a pic of the motor shaft input side of the pump?

Yeah. It will be a couple of days at least. I’m waiting for the o-ring to get here.

I’m thinking I should change the oil sooner than 50 hours on mine.:flushed:

Gear drive’s are so much better than belt drives, Bla,bla, bla.

You want to change it after the first 50 hours of break in. After that you can go a lot longer. I just change every season though. It’s cheap insurance

I just changed changed out my lunch box.

Teddy grahams!

Can’t leave home without the Butt Paste…lol. It does work though.

What is it used for?

Just what the name says. Diaper rash for babies but works great for chaffed legs or crack…lol

1 lousy low on oil geardrive failure and you put me through this grief!! Maybe it gets used so much that the gears have just worn out from productivity, us house washers don’t stand around picking our Lycra wedgies all day :sunglasses:

@MuscleMyHustle why would the machine wait an hour till it started to cavitate/surge and make that noise if it’s the gear drive causing the problem?
