Hi everyone! I’ve been lurking for about 5 months now and I want to thank all the contributors for teaching me so much! Pricing is one thing I feel like I’m constantly tweeking. I’m wanting feedback to see how much you would charge for the following surface cleaning job. I was out bid on a particular job by a large amount, and wanted to see if I was charging too much, or they were super low-balling. Measurements are from Google Maps.
Driveway, 90 linear ft, double driveway
Sidewalk, corner lot, 290 linear ft.
That’s what I thought based on my research. I went .17 and they went .09. With approx. 2,220 sq ft, that made our totals way off ($200 vs $375). I was just shocked when the customer told me the other offer was only $200!
One hour!!! I guess I need to pick up my pace…but there’s a catch-22 with that when it comes to surface cleaning as we know. Maybe the posts advising people to slow down, has me going too slow!
If you are out there wit a 4 or 5 gpm machine, you aren’t going to make money against someone set up with good equipment. But, I don’t know what pricing is in your area. I’ve never charged by the sq ft for anything.
Same I’ve always been an eyeball kinda guy. If it’s a super big driveway I’ll sometimes map it out just so I know What ballpark I want to be in, but that is seldom
I eyeball jobs, never give prices based on square footage. If I know a job is going to be a 2-3 hour project, I’m bidding anywhere from $250-$350. I’m in the Lake Barkley area of Kentucky.
Yeah, I’ve done that too. I like the consistency my .20-.25 gives me for my per hour amount. I’m usually on the high end of bids but sell us and our work. Try to land 75% of our bids, but we also do a lot of high end residential.
Thanks for everyone’s feedback. Lesson learned here is that even though I view a 90’ driveway with 290’ sidewalk as a 2-3 hr job, if someone else can do it quicker, they can charge much less. I gotta step my game up!! Thanks again!
