Suggestions on Alternative Surfactants

So here is the dilemma… I am based in Hawaii and not on Oahu, and ordering chemicals out here is tough. Every time I order the shipping costs range between $100 and $250. I do have access to commercial SH so thats not a problem. Does any one have any advice on what surfacts might be locally sorced at say lowes, home depot or other such places for house and roof wash applications?

Dawn isn’t pretty but it gets the job done. Just be sure to go light on houses as it’s very hard to rinse. I used it for a good 3-4 months starting out with no problems

It just might be something you have to figure into the cost of doing business.

Five gallons of Elemonator would give you over 500 house washes.

Even with shipping that high, you’d be at less than $.50/house. That’s worth it.

There’s some horror stories on here of people using Dawn on houses. Since it’s a degreaser I guess it messed with oxidation. I’ve heard of people using Gain laundry detergent in a pinch.

Along with Gain I’ve heard A&H Oxiclean laundry detergent suggested for emergency use.

I remember @Racer recommended A&H in a pinch and I actually did a roof with it once while waiting for Roof Snot to ship. Smells good but not ideal of course.

@Hackettbryon, as Brian and DJ said I’d go with laundry detergent if you have no other options. My opinion is that Dawn should not be used to wash houses.

@qons How many ounces of Elemonator do you mix per gallon of HW mix? 500 houses is a lot for 640 fl oz of soap. And we obviously use more mix on larger homes so the math doesn’t work for me.

I use to use laundry detergent. I don’t remember the brand but they are all pretty similar. I know a couple of guys who still use it.

Listen to @marinegrunt and @PristineGC I have no clue what I’m talking about

@PristineGC 1-2 oz per 5 gallons of HW mix.
5 gallons of HW gets it done for most houses I wash.
So 320-640 houses at that rate.
