I am a solo operator at the moment as I’m doing this part time and acquiring more business. I have noticed that sometimes customers are shocked that I am doing all the work myself.
I’ve had window cleaning jobs or house washing jobs where the customer said oh wow you’re doing this by yourself or wow I thought you would have at least 2 guys.
No one has ever complained about my work once it is completed or anything like that.
My question: Does it look unprofessional if you’re a solo operator? Thoughts or opinions on this? Why are so many people shocked that I’m a small company?
They’re surprised by your output as a solo operator and not lack of employees. I will say… once you get a couple minions your work load is cut in half after some training and your revenue will double if they’re any good. I’ve only worked a *couple days a week this season and we’ve been busier than last year so the revenue has already started out on a positive note.
I’m definitely going to have to add 2 full timers though… the retirees won’t want to keep up this pace. I can already tell. Lol
I think the surprise is sometimes due to how you represent your company. Before I got logo’d shirts and signage on the vehicle, I only got the occasional comment about me being solo. Now it seems most new customers are surprised when I show up solo.
I may be seeing things with rose colored glasses, but it seems that some of these comments have an air of respect/admiration: that I’m capable of completing a task that they thought would have required a whole crew.
FWIW, most window cleaners, and a healthy portion of power washers, work solo.
I’m a solo worker. I work 4 days a week. Then I work 4 days a week on my other job. I like solo for the most part. One person to be responsible, no excuses and one person gets paid. So far so good.
