Sodium hydroxide mix?

I get mine on eBay. I ordered a 50 lb bucket (5 gallon) for $110. That will last me a long time. You can buy it in any quantity it was just a little cheaper buying it in bulk. I’ve also bought it by the pound container locally at Menards. It’s usually sold as a drain cleaner. I’ve only ever seen it as the pearl or bead type.

Not gonna lie…I LOL’d at this pretty hard. Somebody needs to take a Midol and back away from the ledge.

I got a local supplier - $50 for 50 lbs. Beads.

If you are in a pinch, like @marinegrunt said, you can go to Home Depot, Lowe’s, etc and buy Crystal Liquid Draino. It is a mix of Sodium and Potassium Hydroxide. You will be paying around $7/lb, which is sky high price, but you’re in a pinch so…Be sure it is the powder form, not the liquid.

Wow! :joy: this post went from 0-100 real quick! @sgb loved that answer

This is a commodity item. It can be purchased in bead form, but it is highly susceptible to moisture. So if you have a bucket and you keep opening it, you should put some desiccant in the bucket.

Other option is 50% in water sold as caustic soda 50%. If left open to air it will crust on the top, and that stuff won’t ever dissolve.

Either can be purchased from most chemical companies such as Harcross, Brentag, univar…etc. There are some very cheap paint strippers that are nearly 100% of the 50% caustic soda mix.

Sorry for the delay, I’m not on here much anymore. Feel free too @ me if you have other chemical questions. I was an R&D formulation chemist for 20 years…I know a few things

I haven’t been here long but I think half the stuff I’ve bookmarked has been from you! Thanks!
