Should I go for a second 8 gpm machine or get a 5.5?

Hiring an employee soon. As such, looking to add a second machine to my truck. I currently have a 8 gpm gear drive. I’m not sure whether I want to add a 5.5 gpm (which will cost about $1100 for the machine) or a second 8 gpm (which will cost about $2300.) What would you do? It will be used for house washing primarily, and occasional concrete.

Personally, I like having a 5.5 along with my 8. We’re in a rural area and run into water issues on occasion and the 5.5 is great to have when dealing with a well. If we had great pressure everywhere though I’d probably run two 8’s.

We’re rural as well. I haul atleast 200 gallons everywhere I go. The other thing is the downstreamers on an 8 and a 5.5 will draw at different rates.

Not enough to make any difference

What TD and IBS said. I have an 8 and 5.5 and sometimes the 5.5 saves the day on really low water pressure. I don’t switch out the injector when I change machines just use the 2.1 injector rated for 3-5 gpm.

2.1 injector on an 8gpm? :face_with_monocle:
I haven’t received my 8 yet but i thought i needed bigger d.i’s than the 2.1 i’m using on the 4 gpm?

So would it be fair to say 2.1 fits all?

They still draw at similar rates? I was under the impression that the 8 draws a lot less. The more ya know.

If it draws a little less than the 5.5 just soap a little longer. All the crazy math trying to figure ratios and percentages hitting the wall is wasted time and irrelevant. If it comes clean, you got the right mix, if not, add more bleach

Corbin i preferred the name with the coffee.

Maybe I should legally change my first name to that. Lol

Sometimes less is more.

I think for residential work a 5.5-6 is sweet… special when you run into draining issues

But I can also see how a 8gpm would be great for commercial

Ratios and mathematics are irrelevant for the most part, dwell time is your measure of chemical strength. The label from supplier indicating strength is there for regulatory reasons. I teach my guys this for repeatability and safety, once they work this out they eyeball it to perfection.

I run an 8gpm and 5.5gpm. The 5.5 pulls much hotter than my 8, which is why I wash with it mostly. I like having the 5.5 a lot for residential.
