Today on a Facebook community page someone asked for a pressure washer ….in one hour there are over 50 companies replying. Insane.
Yeah, that’s pretty typical on any platform. I can almost guarantee the person that made the request just kept scrolling until they found a recommendation from someone not promoting their own services. I’ve seen it and experienced it myself… there is one handyman guy with tons of great reviews and a solid reputation, but most people who mention their own business tend to get overlooked. When I was posting for myself, I barely got any traction. But now that others are recommending me, I get multiple requests a day just from that.
Yes, I will admit many of them like 75% look unprofessional or that they took five minutes to make advertising or a logo and I have had many people tell me they chose me for the image alone but of course there’s always people that will shop by dollar especially for the economy headed towards
I live in a rural area, so don’t think population density think empty fields trees between houses. I get new competitors every year. I can’t get some commercial jobs because the new guys come in and lowball the bid. Have lots of pics of concrete they’ve ruined.
PW is a super low barrier to entry, requires really no skill set whatsoever, or the ability to read or do research as observed on this forum. Then add in the fact that the average 6-30 year old doesn’t read, but only watches videos as their source of information, then someone makes a video claiming how they got rich doing this.
My state charges sales tax for washing, requires a contractor number and insurance, and requires contracts over certain amounts to be signed. All of this is just words on paper for the guy/gal with a ryobi and a willingness to hustle. Most won’t be in business next year or in two years, but they will be replaced with the next one with the cheapest yard signs plastered all over the place.
Poop in one hand and wish in the other, see which one fills up faster.
Oh, and the $99 guy still makes money, regardless of how you feel about it.
Agreed but the 99 $ guy isn’t making any more over time that getting a low level job once the cheap equipment breaks , pays taxes and has to deal with his screw ups (or skip town)
Just think there is a “not worth it” level that pricing can get to.
Still shocks me that I see people in my area startup / buy a rig and are in Facebook groups asking how to do a basic house wash.
Ha, now that’s funny… that’s where all their profit lies
Yea that was one that I knew most would get.
Well I’m off to wash a house and look at a driveway that looks like my 99$ tried with with his 5000 psi 1.1 gpm machine/ 60$ surface etcher.
