Hello!

I’m looking to buy a new pressure washer and a surface cleaner.

I would like to buy a 4400 psi / 4 gal per minute / 12 hp enige pressure washer.

Now I know for this type of pressure washer you are best off with a 16 inch surface cleaner.

I also know which nozzles I need to order for the surface cleaner, based on the psi and waterflow: 25020

I also know using larger nozzles will lower the pressure from the surface cleaner.

But how much less pressure do I get then?
Let’s say I use 1 size bigger, 25025… Or 2 sizes bigger, 25030…?
I really want to understand the pressure I get by changing the nozzles.

Or am I better off buying a less powerful pressure washer, something like a 3200 psi / 4 gallon per minute / 7 hp engine… Because, do you really ever need 4400 psi?

Thank you!

Your machine isn’t 4400/4 so you’ll be fine with the 16 inch and the 2502 nozzles

How do you mean “Your machine isn’t 4400/4”

The max operating pressure should be 4400.
I understand in reality it will be a bit less… But much less?

I really don’t want to damage something when using the surface cleaner on more sensitive surfaces…

My 4400/4 with a 390 Honda will do right at 3000psi at the gun on my SC with 2502 nozzles. I tried the 25025 and was only getting about 2200. What he means is your machine is one or the other, it can’t do 4gpm at 4400 psi, it just doesn’t have the horsepower to do that.

What you’re looking for is a pressure washer nozzle chart. Type nozzle chart in the search bar up top and save a copy to your phone so you’ll always have it.

</div>

Ok…
I think I understand that…
So, can I expect the same psi as your machine then with the 2502 nozzles? 3000 psi?

The pressure washer I was looking at doesnt have a Honda engine… Maybe that also makes a difference?

3000 psi seems fine to not damage something…

That’s more about the nozzles for your gun, and not for the nozzles for a surface cleaner, I think…? Right?

Every machine will be different. Lots of ways to set them up, plumbing, hose length, etc. I’m just saying that with 2502 nozzles you will not see 4000 at your surface cleaner. Get both 2502s and 25025s and test them. I don’t ever do any new concrete, so I have no issues with 3000 psi. I ran the 25025s for a little while, but that pressure just wasn’t cutting it when dealing with lichen.

Same thing, just with the surface cleaner you have two nozzles, so divide your gpm in half.

If I understand that chart… (sorry if I don’t, I’m not a professional, but I am trying to learn something and do things right):

Nozzle size 2 should come close to 4000 psi, so that is a 25020 nozzle?
And nozzle 2,5 should come closer to 3000 psi, that is a 25025 nozzle?

Did I get that right? 🤔
If so, I probably need to take your advice and order the 25020 and 25025 nozzles and try them both… 🤔

Didn’t realize that 1 size bigger made such a big difference in pressure… 🤔

You’re machine is about 3400/4. You lose 300 psi for every 100 ft of hose plus friction loss getting other plumbing. Nozzles are cheap. Buy some and experiment.

</div>

Theoretically, yes, you are right. Your machine won’t be able to push 4000 psi at 4 gpm though. As I said, my machine will actually do right at about 3000 at the surface cleaner with the 2502s and 100ft of hose, not 4000 like the chart says. The chart is a good guide and starting point, not exact values. Every machine and setup will vary.

A nozzle is a nozzle. Just remember to account for two (or four if you have a four nozzle surface cleaner) nozzles on a surface cleaner.

Ok great!
Thank you so much, very helpful info!

I also have a lance here that I could use with that pressure washer, but it is rated at “only” 250 bar (3625 psi).

I guess, based on the info you gave me, I can safely use that lance with that pressure washer?

It’s a u shape that holds 2 nozzles…
Would change the existing ones for 2 turbo nozzles size 2, each rated at 250 bar (3625 psi)

That should be fine I think…

Ok hold up. First off are you in the US? New guys come along (me included) and say they have all this weird equipment that professional washers never use, so what is this ‘u-shaped lance’?
