Ran Pump Out of Water...NEED HELP PLEASE

I am new at this and just a big rookie mistake. Connected hose to faucet but forgot to switch the water flow from tank water to faucet water. When the tank ran dry the Briggs & Stratton (with General Pump) shutdown as it should. …Is there a trick getting it restart? A re-set switch or something? I bought this big trailer rig from a private party and have no tech information.

Thanks for helping this Dummy!

What caused it to shut off?

Michael has done some setups where the ignition shuts down if the tank runs low. Is that what happened?

How long did it run with no water?

Tim, it ran for no more than 10-15 seconds before I shut the Briggs & Stratton (18 HP twin cylinder) off. The pump is one of General’s top of the line…TS2021

I just bought this rig and so far I have not been able to restart it after it has been running under pressure, even if I disconnect the wand to be sure there’s no pressure.

Any thoughts?

Russ Johnson will hook you up with all things machine related. He also has some pretty awesome soaps as well.

Take some pictures, let me see what you’ve got.

Hi Russ, here are some photos I have on file, it’s dark now. Can take more if you don’t see what you’re looking for in the morning. …Thanks!

Russ, just realized I can only send one photo at a time…will send a couple more. Thanks again.

Starter solenoid. Bang it with a piece of wood. Happens to me all the time

No solenoid, just a big push button switch. Does it crank at all, or is this the same machine that is dead headed with trapped pressure on the outlet?

Ahh yeah he’s got the old 18. Thanks for setting me straight Russ!

Maybe pump is seized and shaft would not move hence it is not starting.

Got everything running strong again, thanks for all the help. …Now have to take my General TS2021 pump apart and clean the valves. Was hooked up to city water at a site and got slammed with a bunch copy sediment in the water. This even after letting it run on the ground first for a few minutes to be sure it was clean water. I’ll be carrying my own water when I go back…another lesson learned the hard way.

How did you get it running again? Just curious.

Hi Sultan, turns out there were things working against as the same time. A small blockage in the downstream valve and I need to get some carburetor work done. Once in awhile it needs a direct shot of carburetor cleaner to fire back up after getting good and hot. I’m suffer through with that until winterization time and get the carburetor rebuilt then.

I think today’s dirty water problem will just require the valves to be cleaned on the General TS2021 pump. I’ll pull them in the morning and see. Going to install a second filter somewhere for hydrant/faucet water this winter too.
