Questions you should be asking an insurance company you may be choosing?

Is that if you do roof washing or any pressure washing ? ,My liability ins. doubles if you do roof washing.

The quota for GL through JW did include roof cleaning originally but later police was not it’s why I switched they didn’t even offer it. And for work WC I exempted myself. Otherwise it was 30k a year upfront also . Only my 1 full timer and 1 part timer are covered. And they have no roof exposure still cost to much I think. My first WC policy 10plus years ado was $1400 a year if paid up front. I miss those days

who do you guys use?

And who did you get your first policy from? Thank you!

hey sasquatch ive been talking on the phone all morning with various insurance companies, ill send you a pm if i go with any other them. have a great day.

i got a quote from state farm for $329 for the year or $27 a month. is there something im missing here…? that seems awfully low. they do not cover care, custody, or control or my equipment. but do cover 3rd party injuries, and work up to 2 stories in height.

Hmmm. SF told me they don’t insure PWing businesses. Maybe it has to do with the state?

Sounds like they quoted you basic bare bones coverage. It’s better than nothing. But may want to up the coverage to the coverage that makes you feel that you and your costumers are protected

that is odd sasquatch… the office i called is a local one about 30 mins away. i told the lady im doing pressure washing, window cleaning, and gutter cleaning. and may be doing screen repairs just as an add on service because she asked if id be doing any kind of repairs. i forgot to mention its 1,000,000 general liability. $1,000 deductible. said anything under $1,000 itd be out of my own pocket. its weird because the other quotes that i got were in the $750 to $1250 range.

Did they tell you how they catgorized your business? I know my IT business was put under business machine repair.

no they did not mention the category for my business. she is calling back shortly so ill ask. i asked her to ask if they cover overspray-say if the overspray from my pressure washer were to hit a car and they had to call to find out.

Maybe I should say my business is an exterior house washing business!

Shelter offers it without the exclusions

State Farm also told me they did not cover pressure washing and I have a great relationship with the agent. I ended up getting my policy through Midwest Family Mutual. I asked about a month ago what it would take to add workman’s comp and they would not add it to my policy. After some searching my agent found a company that would, but only under the stipulation that they would never get on a ladder…

hey APW. ive called nearly 20 places & no one will insure me. only people that will are j walters and they quoted $1,500 a year. other places wont because i dont have any experience. one place quoted me $750 but withdrew their offer because i was “asking too many questions”. lol. shady stuff

I couldn’t believe how hard it was to get insurance and then even after I got it, it’s nearly impossible to add anything to the policy. Very frustrating when you are trying to start or grow a business.

Where are you located?

yeah i feel you right now. im in florida.

Go with JDW for a year. After that shop around local. $1,500 is not a great price, but it’s not horrible when you consider what it costs to get started in most other businesses.

One upside to JDW is you know they’ll cover overspray or other damage related to your work. Do us all a favor though, and don’t make a silly claim for a few hundred dollars. Way too many contractors are treating their insurance policy like an “oh, crap fund”. Keep some money set aside to fix stuff out of pocket when it eventually happens. Business Insurance should be for the sort of stuff that would bankrupt you, like replacing an entire house-worth of siding, or paying someone’s hospital bill when they trip over your hose and break a hip.

Get insured as a painter that also pressure washes

I’m waiting on a local guy who is shopping around to see who will write my business. He said many prefer 3 years experience and that some are concerned with water getting under siding causing mold issues.
