Plate on back of Generac Pump falls off

Hello, I have a brand new Generac 6924 with maybe a total of 5 hours on it. This past weekend I was doing some power washing and the circle plate on the pump fell off. It will not run when plate is off and it leaks the pump oil when it is off. As far as I can tell only pressure holds it in. So I took a rubber mallet, tapped it back in (fairly easy to do) but it fell off almost immediately again. I bought it brand new however, it was from my friend who’s company is an authorized dealer but over two hours away so I do not want to take it back. What could cause this? Can I buy bolts and put a metal plate over it? I really don’t want to take it in and wait a month or more to have them fix it or repair it. The “plate” is a rubber material on the outside and a metal on the inside, sorry if the pic is sideways or upside down.

You likely could use some rtv to hold it on. Its basically to keep that area clean and “dry”.

So I realized I didn’t post this but I edited it in… It will not pump water when the plate is off, it shuts off as soon as you pull the trigger if the plate is off and oil pours out as well.

What I had figured was the pump metal expands faster than the metal inside the rubber causing it to lose it’s “grip.” This is a commercial unit and I’d be really pissed if I was running a business or trying to get real work done and this happened.

That being said, I don’t think rtv will hold it and it would look sloppy. What I really want to know is why? Is there not enough oil in there? Is there to much? It didn’t come with a pump dip stick so I’ve filled it up to what I believe is a bit below halfway…

With that being said, look up the pdf file on it, see if its missing what I think is a metal plate that bolts there. Good luck.

I have owners manual and picture just shows exactly like that without anything over it. Same thing with all the pictures online. Just want to make sure it’s safe if I put a custom fab plate over it with some bolts.

That’s a question for the dealer you purchased from imo.

That part# is an engine part#.

If this is something you use around the house, try a homemade cover. If it is something you plan to make an income with, push it to the side and get a commercial grade washer
