Open trailers and theft?

I have a rather short driveway and ended up buying a used 5x8 enclosed trailer. My area isn’t so bad, but a ‘crime map’ shows plenty of theft just outside the subdivision.

How do you all deal with having your expensive equipment on an open trailer, parked outside?

Motion lights and good locks? Maybe visible camera’s? I feel like you should find a garage or storage unit, but im sure you could secure and insure your equipment.

Parked inside.
But i have cameras on my truck front and back recording 24/7

Yeah, I had cameras on my house too when my utility trailer got stolen. Problem is the local police were swamped with similar thefts and couldn’t do anything about it. I followed the drag marks for about a mile until they disappeared.

I was mainly asking what you open trailer guys do, I have a small enclosed out of necessity.

We live in a subdivision that doesn’t allow any type of trailer in the driveway so I made room in the garage for my 5x8 open trailer. I prefer working out of an open trailer. There’s obviously advantages to both open and closed. It’s a great advertising advantage with a closed trailer. If you need something at a store you don’t have to worry about theft. If you’re leaving your trailer outside it’s a no brainer to go closed. But to me there nothing like working out of an open trailer.

Security lights, cameras, and inland marine insurance coverage. Plus I cover mine with a heavy duty tarp tied at each grommet. Fits like a snug boat cover. I kept everything in my truck in the garage for awhile, but got tired of unloading everything when I needed my truck bed for other stuff. So I bought a small 5x10 trailer and also found myself worrying about theft.

I have a coupler lock and insurance. The sad truth is all that stuff just keeps an honest person honest. A thief will steal no matter what you do. Insure your equipment for replacement cost. That’ll help protect you from loss should something happen
