New EDDM - Opinions?

The Call To Action is keeping up with the Joneses, which is more powerful in 2018 thanks to social media than a personal call to action to keep the stuff you own clean because it’s yours. Your stuff is now your neighbors stuff more than ever. That’s why when I started adding “we just cleaned the Johnsons house at 123 Street, what can we help you with.” to 5 around door hangers I get at least one call for every 15-20 door hangers I hang.

People care that their neighbors care.

Exactly! My favorite line is “Be the envy of your neighborhood”.

Bingo. If people wanted to close more house wash deals at higher prices they’d start asking on the phone, “Did we just clean your neighbors house?” or in person, “Did your neighbors just have their house cleaned?” or “Your neighbors need their house cleaned worse than you do!” jokingly.

Bring up the neighbors. Close more deals.

Your analogy i would say “yes and no” with they either want it or they dont.
An oil change is something everyone who has a car HAS to get. You dont have to get your roof cleaned.
Also everyone knows exactly what an oil change is and does for you. Not everyone know what roof cleaning is and why they should have it done. If the customer looks up and they see the roof is dirty why would they have it cleaned over replacing it. Having why they should have it cleaned on the card just helps get it in their mind their are other ways to have a clean roof with out replacing it. Not saying write an essay on the card, but have a little more info other than you should have it cleaned helps.

With my roof cleaning flyers i use it as my selling point, that its cheaper to clean than to replace. A lot of people in my area dont know about roof cleaning, and will just have it replaced. So i let them know that there are alternate ways to get the same result but by spending less money.

You make some very good points and have some good ideas. I would like to see your flyers if you would care to show them. I may order a 1000 or so with f/b just to see the difference in response rate.

On the flip side of that, I bet there are people who think they need their roof replaced as the only means of getting the streaks and moss off. This card lets them know there’s another, likely less expensive option. There are people who have thought the needed a roofer and might see this card at first glance looking for one.

I don’t really post pictures of my cards due to how many lurkers
are on here. If I send a piece and it lands on a competitor’s door i don’t care,
but don’t want to show everyone everything. Ive spent a lot on eddm cards, and
still don’t have them like I would like. You have to test a lot of cards which
cost a lot of money to print and improve it. I order 15k cards and one of the
images came out too dark so it killed the B&A pic to where its almost unusable.

If I were you I would sleep on that card before you order it.

If nothing else your card is very plain, as in the color scheme does not
scream look at me. I think a lot of people fail to realize that you are still
competing for realestate even in the mailbox. You want your card to be scene
first and stand out. Before you do a complete order, I would suggest you print
out your current version (at home) with the same dimensions you plan to order
it in. Save up a few days of junk mail (mainly the post cards) and put them all
in a pile with yours. Really test to see what stands out. Even better ask a
friend to pick the card that stands out and grabs his/her attention first.
Experiment with different colors that really pop. One of my cards use’s a golden yellow
font or yellow shape in every corner so that no matter which portion of the card sticks out, it
will stand out a little more.

You also don’t have to only use your logo or brand colors.
There is no yellow anywhere on my logo, truck wrap, or website, but yellow is
what stands out in a mail box. White and blue are probably the most over used
colors so when your card is in a mail box it looks like everyone else’s. Even
if all you did was add a neon green or pink border it will drastically make the
card stand out way more and grab more attention. I know you have “stop” and the
“demo star burst” in red but atleast for me they would not grab my attention
like it should.

And going back to the picture I would use another one. Your
customers are not going to know what a softwash wand is so having that take up
the majority of your picture is pointless. Better to just have a B&A.

Not trying to offend you or say your piece is not good,
those are just my suggestions to make it better. You can have the best
information on a marketing piece but if no one sees it, it’s useless. Make sure
you stand out

Really though, how much are you willing to spend on an EDDM campaign?

Notice I said campaign, eddm is not a one time mail out and
then receive hundreds of calls you really need to know how to do it for result.
So many guys send a few cards don’t get a call(s) and say it doesn’t work. EDDM
is a numbers game and you really have to send out a few thousand cards at a
time. And if you want to go even deeper with eddm you mail your cards than follow
up with a target facebook ad to those neighbor hoods. Facebook also comes with its own set of
challenges though.

Lot of good points here.

Sorry, late to party here, but a couple of things on card jump out. You don’t have Lichen on there, which is the only thing that really harms the shingles.
Also, most of us in the industry offer a 5 year warranty if they do the whole roof. In fact I think the exact wording is a “5 year spot-free warranty” that all the Softwash Systems guys use.

I usually canvas one neighborhood at a time. The same neighborhood I’m working in. The same neighborhood I’ll have signs out front and do 5 arounds. I don’t canvas the whole city. I also use them to get my foot into a new neighborhood. I’ll send out one round of eddm to get a job or two, then after or during the work I’ll send it out again. I make my own drops at the post office. This one could use some improvements I’m sure, but it’s sent for printing last night. You should have seen my first eddm post card, it was horrible. It had that stock pressure washing photo that makes everyone cringe. It worked but it could have worked better. This is how I built my current customer base, but I haven’t done any eddm in about three months. I had some extra time yesterday to design another one. On my next order I’ll revisit this thread and make some of the tweaks that I like from you and @Racer
