Neutralizing SH question / sodium metabisulfite

I have a question about neutralizing SH. This may be more up @CaCO3Girl’s alley, but im always open to hearing any other thoughts.

Ok so i was reading a few weeks ago and came across a chemical compound called sodium metabisulfite. Looks like in very small quantities it neutralizes SH, but some of the warnings for it were concerning. So my question is, can sodium metabisulfite be used effectively to neutralize SH in grass, around plants, and other vegetation?
I’ve never really run into issues burning grass or plants, but was thinking about keeping something like Agent Halt handy just in case. I’d like to be able to use a foamer to apply. So is it possible, safe, or even worth trying?

Baking soda diluted in water.

I’d like to reopen this question. @CaCO3Girl does sodium metabisulfite work as a SH neutralizer? What about mixing it in a 5 gal and down streaming as a neutralizer for metal roofs?

I read a few posts from guys down streaming it on windows to get rid of the streaks from house wash. One guy did a video on it. According to him it works for windows. Really you could just soap it again then rinse the streaks.

Ya I really dont see why you would use it on a house wash. But it looks like a great way to neutralize sh after a metal roof wash. I think I read something like 2 teaspoons would neutralize 2 gallons of bleach. I couldn’t find any info on whether or not it would hurt the roof or paint on the roof. That’s why I asked

Yes, about 1 gram, half a teaspoon, per gallon of water will neutralize SH residue. But to be honest that stuff clouds, and it is my least favorite chemical because it just takes your breath and I can taste it for HOURS! I hated walking through the plant after we used some of that stuff in a formula. I prefer sodium thiosulfate as a SH neutralizer. It’s not as harsh on me, but it takes about an ounce per gallon…rather than a gram.

Actually you may find that the streaks return with just a soap rinse. SH needs to be neutralized to eliminate the Cl. That stuff is just stubborn!

Thanks for the info. Looks like that stuff is safe to use. Now off to buy some
