So last night my grill saw it’s last cook! She was a good ol Walmart cheap 4 burner. Only 2 of the tubes are still intact. I have been looking at the infrared grills. Anyone have one? And before we get on the charcoal/gas debacle please note that I prefer gas for the instant gratification. I have a nice smoker for when I want other flavors.
Are the infrared grills worth it? The thought of even cooking temperatures and not having to jockey a $14 steak around to get a good sear appeals to me.
Are you talking about an actual Infared grill or the fake infared that big box stores have been selling for years? One brand likes the term TRU infared.
The reason I’m asking is I have lots of experience with infared grills. Napoleons, and Grand Halls. I’ve never used the ones from Lowes or Home Depot. I’m sure they are great but most infared grills have ceramic discs or plates to evenly distribute the heat. It takes them longer to warm up and won’t give you that instant gratification but far superior cooking. Kinda like the big green egg situation.
I have a Lowe’s infrared grill.i think it’s made by charcoal . It’s a small with 2 burners . I love it , have had it for 7years and still kicking butt.
It actually heats up super fast , I can get it to 500 degress in less than 5 minutes. And it cooks evenly . The only thing the 2 plates are a littl difficult to clean . But not a big deal , I wouldn’t go back to a regular burner
Expensive they are. Ive never had one of the top of line ones, but they have always cooked well and they are all completely repairable with parts readily available
My dad purchased a lowes infrared a few years ago and hates it. He’s like that with most new things though, so take it for what its worth.
I just bought a Weber S-335 and am loving it so far. Has really good top end and low end heat for a gas grill, and weber has a great warranty for their products. They are expensive, but I’ve only heard good things about them and have experienced the same in my little time owning one.
For gas grills I have a weber 310 plumbed to my back porch natural gas that gets used mostly in the wintertime or additional cooking space for potatoes etc when all the kids (6) are home. Otherwise its going on either one of my 2 Big Green eggs. Regardless of which way you go I would suggest looking into “Grill Grates” as an addition. I have them on all of my grills including on my Thermador indoor grill. They are awesome!
