Mounting Bolts for PW

I am still working out the kinks on my new trailer build. I chose to make a stand to mount the PW. I originally used stainless steel carriage bolts and one broke. I then switched to a grade 8 bolt and I just noticed one of them broke. Is there any secret to mounting the PW or does my local ACE have some knock off bolts?

I have never had a bolt break. Might have some Chinese steel

I think you are correct. This is the second one that broke. I will try some bolts from Home Depot and maybe I will have some better luck.

Better yet, call your local nut and bolt store. They’ll fix you right up.

I may try Fastenal. My next move is to weld some angle on the stand & mount the PW straight to the angle.

Don’t buy them at HD they charge like 3 times as much, look for a hardware store. Check amazon prices as a comparison.

Easy enough to find out if there grade 8 bolts, should have 6 radial lines on the face of the bolt. A good quality grade 8 will never snap like that. I agree with IBS, the Chinese steel is the worst on the market, if it’s vital or under stress spend the bucks.

Yeah, it has the 6 lines on the head of the bolt. When the first one broke from ACE, the guy recommended the grade 8 which is what broke. I figured the ACE hardware was a better choice over the big box stores.

I would go to Fastenal or Grainger

Same here, I tried to take the pulley off my machine and the stock bolt snapped, so I got a grade 8 from Lowes and it bent. Not sure what’s going on lately.
