Mornings like THIS!

I had a friend of mine call me a few years ago saying her remote wouldn’t unlock the car anymore, she was going to be late to work and couldn’t afford a locksmith. Asked if I knew how to unlock cars.

I just said, well… there’s an old timey key on your remote, the one you start the car with, and an old timey key hole on your door. You’ll be fine. But if you can’t afford $75 you should budget better.

She must’ve laughed on the phone for 5 minutes. She kept saying “keys open doors”, “old timey key”, and “I thought locksmiths were $1000” and reigniting her laugh.

I still get texts on occasion with a picture of a random key that just says “check out this old timey key.”

One of my employees once locked his keys in a work vehicle of mine out in Kansas. He called me in a panic as the truck driver was getting mad and wanting to roll. He said “a locksmith here that said for $50 he would open the door” I told him to pay him and get moving…

The “locksmith” used a crowbar to pry the top of the door open and used an actual stick from a tree to push the button… This is after he was given cash. Not only did he leave a sweet dent in the top of the car but the door never did seal right again!

People are scum…

Yeah that sucks. Pop a lock has an air bag thing you can crack the door open just a tad. It’s pretty neat.

I’ve never needed it because I always have a key hidden on the vehicle somewhere, but next time just tell your guy to take the heaviest handed option available. Smash windows.

I ran a tow truck for a shop about 11 years ago. We had one of those and it was my favorite tool. Just a small air pillow with the same squeeze up ball as a blood pressure cuff.

I’ll bet he also washes houses on the side…$85 a pop.

All this talk of locking the keys in cars has made me decide to keep onstar. The chance of me locking my phone and keys is the truck are pretty slim. I hate that you had to break you window though.

Are you sure the employee didn’t do the job himself, and pocketed the $50? I just can’t imagine any locksmith resorting to such crude methods…

In response to everyone else: I always keep a spare key on all my vehicles. But this reminds me that I still haven’t got one for Truck Norris

Actually the employee made up the story and pocketed 50 bucks lol

There’s plenty of lockout hacks around here… just like any industry
