Marketing issues

I’m just starting out in the pressure washing business and I noticed the few pressure washing businesses that’s in my area do not have any signs out throughout the town! Are they slipping on the marketing strategy or do they know something i dont know! I’m concerned bout placing yard signs out along intersection and along the highways! Reason for that is I came across an issue someone posted on the FB page for pressure washers saying he had to pay a fee to the gov for his workplace signs. He also said (whoever sent it to him) that it was a solicitation and not a bill. Saying he can receive the posters for free from the gov! I’m confused and dont wanna get into any trouble!

Workplace signs refer to workers rights/FMLA/workers comp etc

Oooo, okay! Nothing to do with advertising my business

James, @Innocentbystander called this one. I think you are misunderstanding what you read on FB. Workplace signs/posters are very different from yard signs that you will be placing around your town. Go ahead and put your yards signs out. Expect to have a few stolen ( especially if you put them in @Innocentbystander 's neighborhood) Expect to have some complaint calls (you put it somewhere it shouldn’t have been) and expect some business calls. Early on I invested $150 in yard signs and have gotten exactly 2 jobs from them.

Yea, I was like no way they’re fining people trying to promote a business in the community! But damn, only TWO call back and all that investment into signs…geez! These marketing strategies are hits and misses! It’s really hard to pin point what really works! Some of yous say door hangers, FB Ads, post cards, and yea…signs! Guess the best way to approach is to just try them all and see what works!

Don’t forget google ads, that’s what’s worked best for me. Fb ads useless. Fb is nothing but cheapskates looking for free ■■■■.

I just put out 20 yard signs in Conroe TX and then I found this page…

Basically what I believe it says in relative terms is, “no bandit signs can be placed anywhere but on private property in Conroe TX.” I then proceeded to call and double check and on the phone they told me it was unlawful to place any form of signs or advertisement anywhere except private property. There is a $500 fee. I guess I have to risk owing $500 in order to to use the 100 signs I just bought.

Please correct me if I am confused about something. @NewGuy89

You have to think outside the box when it comes to city or private property. Think of the area way out in front of Walmart. I’m sure you’ve seen the small strips of land that Walmart has for sale that’s leftover from when they purchased a big chunk of land. That’s private property and an area a lot of people will see. Even consider the small grassy areas outside strip malls. It might not be a bad idea to ask permission but there are usually already a other signs there. They still sometimes don’t last long so be happy if you get 3 days out of them. It helps if you place them on a Friday because you have the weekend where they won’t get messed with. When it comes to public property don’t put them in front of subdivisions, parks, or on city streets. Almost all cities have ordinances when it comes to signs but it varies on who enforces them. The biggest cities in my area don’t seem to care but some of the smaller ones do. The really small towns don’t care either.
