Leaking Bulkhead

I just got a new 26 gallon tank and the bulkhead is leaking. It has a gasket on inside and out. I tried tightening, taking it off and cleaning. No luck. Could it just be a bad gasket or bulkhead? Any solutions?

Leaking what? Water or bleach? If bleach, did you change out the gaskets that came with bung hole for viton or chem resistant?

It’s leaking water but it will be used for bleach. I didn’t think to change to viton though, thanks.

If being used for bleach it is best to not have a bung hole.

I just sold a brand new tank with a bulkhead that I was going to use for my SH because of this reason. I didn’t want 100 gallons of SH leaking all over my new enclosed trailer. I decided to go with a drop-tube so I bought one without the bulkhead. You can pick it up at Tractor Supply. This is the one I got. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/pco-tank-100-gal

I’m having a similar problem with my water tank. 125 gal leg tank. Keeps leaking out the bulkhead fitting. I’ve tried to tighten it down as much as I can and still…drip drip drip. Didn’t mean to hijack this thread

Can u not run a bead of silicone around it?

Tried Lexel and didn’t quite stop it

So your saying that my new 35 gallon SH tank will likely leak? It has a bung…

Yep…

Leaveing the lid threaded but loose seems to have solved the leak on my 35… for now at least

I’m trying to find a way to remove the fitting and permently patch the hole but thus far I’m not having much luck

Need to change it every 2 yrs. I read that somewhere.
The manufacturer warranty on SH is usually 3yrs, at least on norwesco.

I was going to buy a new bulkhead and see if that helps. If not I’ll try silicone. I can’t take the tank back so I’m going to try and make it work. If mot then I’ll get a new one with mo bung hole.

Well :poop:! Guess I’ll be exchanging that out!

Bring it somewhere that does plastic welding, perhaps an RV store. They should be able to weld a patch right over the hole.

If persists for 4 hours or more speak with your doctor.

I never knew that existed.

I’ve installed about 100 bulkhead fittings in water tanks for fountains. They need a silicone grease/ O ring grease applied to the gaskets before they are tightened. About 10% of them will leak if you don’t put the grease on them. Do not use standard silicone. It will work for a short period of time then start leaking after a few weeks once the standard silicone dries and movement breaks the seal.

Had a leaking chem bulkhead. Thanks to this I found a licensed plastic fabricator 23 miles from me. This is why I joined.
