King's Reels - Anyone got these?

You must have missed that thread…it came home on a rollback. That’s when I learned the axle and everything else were under-designed :rage:

So, I try really hard to sell them without a floor. You got to convince them that they can save money doing it their self and letting them decide what they want to use  all the struts are 16 inch on center, unless they want trex, then it’s 12in on center. If it’s for a washing rig I would definitely use trex. More expensive but that stuff lasts a long time. Usually it’s 5 quarter decking boards, sometimes with a sheet of diamond tread, but that’s just for looks.

Now you’re talking my language…just buying the parts I can’t readily do myself at the moment

Trex is a brilliant idea…I must be tired :man_facepalming:

I remember that thread. I’ll say it worked out great considering how bad that situation could have turned out.

Yeah, the chains held up, and it never really hit the pavement…IDK how, but it definitely could have been a major safety problem

How do you get around the Trex being thinner than dimensional? I’ve thought about replacing mine with Trex but then I figured I’d have to shim it with wood and that just almost seems like it would defeat the purpose.

I can’t think of why being thinner would have any bearing. Unscrew the deck boards, screw down the trex. You shouldn’t have to shim anything

Throughout the middle that would be fine but where the deck is captured at the front and rear would have a pretty big gap. You’re right though, worst case scenario I could just shim the front and back with some scrap Trex. I think I’m doing this.

I did trex. When i rebuilt mine absolutely worth it. @Innocentbystander wanna price me. 7x12 dual axel no walls no gate heavy fenders

You wouldn’t have that problem with my trailers:)

What size axles? What flooring? Or no flooring but framed for trex?

No floor 5k axels no lights

Trust me I almost called you a couple months ago and said build me a 7x14 with 5k axles but this dang 16’ trailer is still solid as a rock and if I get rid of this one it’ll be for a flatbed build.

I’m driving to my cabin now I think I have one exactly what you want already made waiting to put boards on it but let me have my boy swing by the shop tomorrow and see what’s there and I’ll call you message me your number or text me at 919-524-3875 so I’ll have your number

Why not 2x wood? PT or rough cut oak? I really don’t like decking boards, not even on decks. I know some old timers, the decks on their trailer are in better condition than the frame. They dumped used motor oil on it every year. Wood is still good. Just curious, I don’t like the idea of plastic on my trailer in heat with weight on it, think it would warp eventually, but maybe you have that accounted for with tighter spacing on the cross members.

.

Heck, just put down some 5/8 or 3/4" marine plywood on it and one of those rubber mats, you’d be golden for years. Not sure I’d trust the Trex stuff once you start drilling bunch of holes in it and as far as holding power on bolts and stuff.

I dont disagree but i built that trailer. So tha crossmembers hold the machine. Bolts go though the trex though the cross member. You could turn that trailer upside down and nothing would fall off it

Yeah, that trex sucks on deck but it’s good stuff on a trailer.

I’d never attach anything to it that wasn’t at least thru-bolted with a backer plate/channel on the underside (and it would have to be at least near a crossmember, if not fastened right to it.

Never thought of myself as an old timer since I’m only 44 but I have never had to replace a wood deck in all my life because I seal it with used oil. I use a poly sprayer so I’m not actually dumping it and flooding the surface. It’s got to be the best looking color too
