Just starting

I pay about $400 a month but that’s because I have the plowing exposure.

I don’t mean to insult, but you would have to have a head made of concrete to think that a wooden skid will somehow kill a pump. That, or you just have no imagination at all.

I’ll tell you what a good wooden skid WILL do, though: Not rot away under the effects of SH.

Is that wood siding on that house?

White vinyl. Has some horrible rust stains I’m going to scrub on.

Change approved! From here on out we call things “Chris rigged”

Good point. Might as well skip the skid altogether and just mount everything to the trailer.

We need to talk, lol. Why the long lance?

I like how it smooths out the flow. I also get less sh in the face when I hold it away from me.

Because it was happy to see you @Racer :rofl::joy::joy:

I’m also rockin the cultisack hairdo lol

Side note} I’m a tired dad with no time to shave the nogin.

It’s possible to make your own ladder, but why? When it fails and you or your employee are injured when it fails and insurance looks for the UL label what will they find? I build some of my frames, but I have a certificate for structural thickness from Lincoln. 99% of my equipment is purchased. Wood does not belong anywhere around a pressure washing set up. Saving a few hundred dollars over a professional set up is not a long term business solution. I admire ingenuity. I make go carts, wood splitters and all kinds of cool stuff. But they are used by employees to make money nor are they safety rated.tinker and make cool stuff. But, when it comes to work, use equipment that will pass an insurance audit or an OSHA inspection when a wrong grade bolt snaps and someone walking by your machine gets hurt.

what should I stay away from

Not so sure about that. Think you’d need at least 10-11 hp to get those figures

If you’re dead set on homebrewing a rig, do like Chris @SchertzServicesLLC and go for the gusto. 22hp predator, 8gpm gear drive pump, remote mounted unloader, and a proper skid under it.

You could also go with a 14hp motor, and get a 5.5gpm gear drive and run it around 2500-2700 psi. Awesome for house washing and some light flatwork.

Here’s the thing to consider about these big $700-$1500 4 gpm units. They’re HEAVY. They include, generally, 25-50 feet of hose. A given home will be at least 200 feet all the way around. Thus, you will have to move this thing into and out of your vehicle/trailer, and move it around the house at LEAST 4 times… That is just on a small home. Do you really want to do that?

Rig up a simple skid with 2x6 boards. Buy the 8 HP harbor freight engine. Buy whatever pump you want from Water Cannon. (It’s an equipment site.) Buy 200 feet of pressure hose. (Or 2 100’ sections, that’s what I did, although it cost a bit more than just buying 1 200’ hose.)
Harbor freight’s engines can be had with a warranty that will replace the engine no questions asked. All you have to do is say the word. Contrary to what is ignorantly spoken here, Harbor Freight engines are quite good. They are pretty much perfect copies of Honda engines. Any parts for the matching Honda engines can be used to fix the HF ones.
In addition, wood is a perfectly fine building material for this. I am genuinely puzzled as to why some think this is not true. Vibration dampeners cost $10 on Amazon for a pack of 5. They just bolt right to the underside of the wooden skid, making your machine run quiet and smooth. There have been cars built with wooden frames, and bolts can handle literally 1000’s of times the stress that any pressure washer will throw at it. It will be just fine, and be roughly 1/10 the price of a manufactured metal skid.
If you REALLY want a metal skid for your SH to dissolve, you can buy one separately for like $80.

EDIT: It depends on your budget. If you want a rig for $500-$1000, get the HF 8 or 13 HP engine and a 4 gpm pump. $1000-$1500, get the 5.5 gpm pump. $1500+, do what Alex_Stacey said, get the 22 HP and an 8 GPM pump.

My rig currently is the 8 HP with a 4 gpm pump.
I didn’t test it super-accurately, but it passed the “point in the bucket and count to 60” method, and it gives enough pressure to run a 15" surface cleaner on concrete no problemo. I was surprised, I kind of bought the 8 HP just for science, to see if it would work.
