Just lost Job, got 9400 dollars in savings looking to start a power washing business, advice?,

My starter list is at the bottom I’m wondering if it will be possible to make 1700 dollars within the first month? I realize this is a bad time of the year to start but this is the third time I’ve lost a job because of location closures, My bills are only 1200$ a month. I just want opinions on how I can hit the ground running with 5000$

I don’t see insurance on that list

I am not in the business, but the first thing I would do is schedule a quote from every company in town. If you can’t get them to tell you everything you need to know, you probably won’t succeed as an owner anyways.

I’ve never seen this said here, but then again, I bet most of these guys don’t want to be the schmuck giving out free info while having their time wasted.

That’s a quick way to piss off every local contractor lol. Contact a few folks who are an hour or two away and ask to shadow them for a day in exchange for free labor. I went and spent the day with rob anderson in Maryland and learned boatloads.

DO NOT do this. Honesty is the best course.

I’ll help anyone regardless of how close or far.

That’s a really good way to make enemies and to make sure no one in your area ever helps you with anything. Think about how you would feel about someone who scheduled a quote from you just to try to find out your prices. That’s dishonest and, trust me, those of us who have been in the business more than 5 minutes can see right through someone who’s asking for a “quote” trying to learn our prices, and we NEVER help someone like that.

@Hijacc ignore that guy’s advice. I do recommend calling some local guys and seeing if any of them will help you out with advice. Most will not, but you’ll likely find one or two guys who are happy to help you out.

@Hijacc Where are you located?

Haha right on @Atlas1 I asked the same thing as we’ve been texting. He’s a good dude.

I took it into consideration its definitely a thing

It’s a must. You can get insured for about $90 a month starting with no roof walking.

I won’t do roofs starting out anyhow, I don’t want to be inexperienced AND in that situation.

My 3rd roof was on a house with brand new $40K worth of landscaping.

We, as contractors, are glad you are not in the business

I don’t doubt that at all. If nobody is mad you are taking their piece of the pie, the pie is probably rotten.

I, and most veteran members here gladly share our info. If you’re in the Tidewater area, give me a call. I’ll trade knowledge for labor all day long. There’s plenty of business out there for people who will learn their trade and place their customers needs ahead of expediency. I’d much rather my competition do things right at a fair price than to give poor service at discount prices.

I’m happy to help someone out who is calling to ask how to get into the business. Even if local. Plenty of work to go around. The people I hate are the ones that call to ask for a quote, I quote, and they ghost me. When I do research on their number or name and a pressure washing business pops up, automatically on my crappy people list. I have a contact list of contractors I call if I need help with a project or I have work for them like deck, screen, or siding repairs. It’s good to have local contractors. Especially washers. You can pair on big jobs and make a profit. Builds life long relationships.

Don’t go calling other companies for their prices and being shady. You will not succeed period.

I hare to say it but starting a PW biz this time of year in Arkansas is not good timing. We have similar weather here in KY and we pretty much shut down until mid-February or March for residential.

Same for MO, although the weather has been acting crazy this year ! Still 40’s - 60’s when it should be 10-20!
