Inlet upgrade

I removed my pump inlet and screen pieces. I went with the 3/4 mpt to 1 1/2 barb. Reason I’m posting this is I’m amazed at how small the inlet screen on the original piece looks like 1/2in hard to think that can feed 8gpm with even 10% trash in the screen opening I have the 2” banjo filter going on right before

Those Y filters are garbage. Use a canister filter and your pumps will love you for it.

1" would have been more than enough, leave some space between your filter and intake, at least a foot or so.

Got it.

Is there a particular reason they’re garbage or is just a preference of yours? Mine seems to be serving the purpose but it’s only 6 months or so old.

See pics above. Don’t hold hold much debris and restrict water Flow

@Innocentbystander What mesh do you recommend?

On that I really can’t say. Never really noticed what size the screen is

Definitely like the sight glass.

Is that first picture the orfice size of the 1.5” barb? I wonder if the SS from King is fully bored.

The 1 1/2 inlet piece is the biggest the pump will allow its 3/4 pump side it only looks small compared to the 1 1/2 end
But the 1 inch piece I took off has what looks to be a 1/2 inch inlet with the screen. Look inside the 1 inch piece

Thats why I just went with a 1in barb. Ill post a pic when it comes in.

This is a 1in barb and 3/4 mpt. The hole is 3/4 all th way thru.

This is with a 3/4"fpt to 1/2"mpt adapter.

I guess I could have done it that way, my fitting is also 3/4 into the pump and opening. I just have 1 1/2 spa hose 2 foot to the brass. I know it’s over kill, 2” to 1 1/2” in a 3/4 hole I’ll post a pick when I glue it up.

What gpm? 1/2 “

1/2" inlet is just about standard up to 5.5gpm, which i have. But I had gotten the 3/4" inlet before realizing my mistake. Ive got the right barb now, and will save this for the 8gpm when I get it.

Ok I am building an 8.

The adapter was just to show the difference, you mentioned the hole looking like a 1/2in. But the 1inch barb is 3/4" opening all the way thru.
