How much do your employees cost you?

I wasn’t criticizing your drive and determination, I was echoing IBS’s sentiments on less stress and headaches by simplifying and reduction, in whatever form that may be. Maybe it was too deep.

I definitely respect the solo guy and can understand how it’s probably less headache. Just not why I’m in it!

I understand that,:grinning:

I love being a one trailer company. it’s just my son and myself and we have a good system. we use a friend occasionally when we need a third person for convenience. I ran crews for years and don’t want the headache. with that said I’m 54 and I’m at the point where I want to lose as much stress as possible. I have an amount I have to make especially since we’re trying to bring my wife home to handle the books and just let me handle estimates and work

Sure lol. Its my brother in law and best friend but he works his butt off. He’s just super active by nature. He’ll climb all over the house like a monkey if needed. Makes my life so much easier and makes me a bunch of $ so I’m greatful for him.

Good story. I heard it at least 20 years ago. Definitely some truth in it.

Assistant TO the manager job?:smirk:

Jokes aside. Im sorry to hear you are losing the heart of your business but im happy to hear she is doing what she wants in life at the same time. Your wife earning her own money is something we overlook. Im always working and do not know what its like to be a “stay at home” type of person but its the hardest and most important job out there. As much as we love providing but hate working and being away its hard to believe someone would choose to work when you think you are giving them the life you dream of but for some its a dream to do what you do for your them.

Why not have her teach an employee to do the invoices etc. And you both work without any hiccups. Im sure that first pay check she gets and buys something for you and the kids with her hard earned money will feel great.

Dont be a old fart and get burntout on this business(lifestyle) you worked so hard to build. Keep in mind you have a “prince” to take that throne. It wont be much longer and you will have that 2 to 3 days a week you are dreaming of. It might be hard to believe but he will probably do better than you in time.

ANYWAYS its been a long day sorry for the blabbing

Thanks for the thoughts. We don’t really have her/my money. It’s all family money but I get what you are saying. She took a job for the insurance, I think hoping it will get me to quit washing. $2k a month in insurance sucks but my son just this week got on full time from his contract job at a pharmacy company and he was the biggest reason for insurance. I don’t even have internet at my shop, much less a computer. If I hired someone they would have to sit in my dining room/office and I don’t want anyone in my house. If most of y’all had any idea how behind the times my office abilities are you wouldn’t believe me./ I routinely mail invoices to property managers because I cant figure out how to enter email address in quick books when my wife isn’t home. My game plan is to keep telling people I’m not interested in bidding something until it slows down enough to start letting people go and selling equipment. I haven’t had a boat or raft in the water since @squid visited in January, missed opening day or Turkey season and too much family stuff. If I haven’t made enough money by now I never will. I have no bills and can eat spam every day and be content.

Well I got one answer to this question last night: they cost you a lot of sleep. An employee I’ve been having issues with due to lack of communication and professionalism told me at 5 pm that he had a dentist appointment scheduled for today. He said he didn’t tell me because he wanted to find a replacement himself but wasn’t able to.

We are (now just I) am driving 3 hrs round trip for a first wash for a new fleet client and I really needed a helper. So if any of you work down in meridian, Ms and want to come work for me for a day give me a call lol.

On a slightly humorous side note I posted a job on indeed last night to try and fill the position (considering firing) and got a call from a mother telling me her son was interested in the job. I told her if her son was interested then he could give me a call lol. People man.

Meridian? I thought you were up around Southaven? I’m a little late to the game, but I’m not to far from Meridian. I wouldn’t mind seeing that set up some time and how this whole fleet washing is done. Maybe I can catch up wit you some time when your over that way and see what this fleet washing is all about. Just out of curiosity! NOT trying to steal your game. Haha! I don’t think I’d want to do any fleet washing, just curious about the whole process.
