How big is marketing to you?

Thinking of possibly getting into the pressure washing business part time as a student in college, my main fear in this endeavor is the marketing/ getting enough customers. I would hate to invest in equipment and have no customers to use it on. How big of a part does marketing play in your business? Is it something to constantly stress about and maintain, or do you find enough customers come in over time? This would either be in Gainesville or Tallahassee, Florida.

I’d say marketing is 60-70% of the game. But I’m a new squid and really have no idea. I would imagine that it would taper off when you establish a good client base and some rapport but again I don’t know anything about marketing.

Both have good markets for Pressure washing. Tallahassee is better because of all the wealthy areas in and around the coast if your willing to drive

Marketing is everything starting out. You should have money set aside for it and be prepared to spend it. Most on here know my primary business is wood restoration, the few guys I know that started it when I did are either out of business or barely making it. They can’t understand why I am busy almost all year. I market when times are good and when it gets slow. I have people waiting 6 weeks for me to get to their job. ABC Always Be Closing. You have to be prepared to market.

Marketing is huge. If you want to test it, market first. Position it as a grand opening type thing. Leverage your college student status.

Rent a machine to start and for initial practice. After a few jobs with a few more on the calendar, buy your own.
