House washing vinyl siding and gutters

So, I ran a little experiment. I washed my house with 8.25% SH and Elemonator. It didn’t work very well. The green algae turned colors but didn’t rinse off well. I put 3 gallons of SH and 3 oz of Elemonator in a bucket and downstreamed it with the stock injector. My injector says it’s 10:1 so it would have been 0.825% of SH delivered on the house. 50’ of hose. It took several applications. I gave it about a 10 min dwell time. Should I get higher concentration of SH? More dwell time? What am I doing wrong?

What machine and what tips were you using

Could be the stock injector. Get 12.5% or pool shock which is 10% then try it. I would even attempt it with the stock injector to be honest. You can buy a better DS injector locally or online for cheap

Just for the record I used a downstream injector kit from Pressure Tek when doing my house a few months ago. Worked like a charm. 2 gallons of s h 10.0 2 oz of surfactant. Perhaps you’re not getting enough chemicals out? I’m sure someone will be able to chime in and give you more specific answers. But thank you for posting this I’m still learning. Good luck

@Innocentbystander 4gpm 4200 psi Black soap tip and orange second story.

What’s the orange tip? I’ve never seen one before

I got some 10% pool shock. I’m going to try that with an xjet. I didn’t use the xjet this time because it’s on its way to me. I think I’m going to order another injector and Jrod also. Have a difficult time sourcing 12.5% SH here for some reason.

@anon37135677 I bought it in a kit from Tractor Supply. It’s a second story low pressure soap tip. Came in a set with Orange and Blue. The Blue one has only a slightly larger orifice than a red tip so I didn’t use it. The orange one has the same size orifice as a Black tip but isn’t fanned out.

Is your chem injector part of your pump? If so plug it and get a 2.1mm 3-5gpm GP fixed injector and put some qc on each side with that machine it will pull anywhere from 8:1 to 12:1. It’s best to test it yourself. That bleach on the shelf has degraded over time and could be 5-6% now. .8% should break down algae and mildew on first pass depending on how dirty siding is.

If you’re in a hurry use the 10-1 orifice on the x-jet and you’ll get the job done. Then order the correct DS injector and you’ll be good to go with the 10%

@Barry1 yes, it is the stock injector on the pump. I’m going to get a better one and do as you and others have suggested. The siding it cleaned fairly well. There were large algae deposits on the vinyl downspouts that it only changed the color from green to reddish brown but it didn’t rinse off like I’ve seen others do. I eventually just used a white tip and was very careful. I don’t want to do that on other peoples homes though. I figured I would practice on mine.

Not difficult you just have to call around and find it.

You have a store that has 2,000 gallons in your backyard.

I bought from Menards for 2 years before I figured out I could have a semi deliver it to me for half the price

@Patriotspwashing Thank you! I did a search and went to Home Depot, and Lowes and couldn’t find it.

HW mix needs longer dwell time on gutters and fascia…especially if extra dirty. Rarely will one pass get dirty gutters white. I’ve applied up to 3 times if needed but they’ll get clean. You’ll learn to do other things while your hw mix is dwelling on dirtiest areas.

That should be a pink tip.

@Sasquatch That’s what I thought too. Perhaps they added more dye to the mix or I’m color blind lol. That thing is Orange

Definitely get a good injector. Something like the High Draw. Get a j-rod with the proper nozzles for you pump. I would imagine those 2nd nozzles you bought are universal for different low gpm machines. You might get more distance out of nozzles properly sized for you pump or even more flow. Guy’s Shooter Tips is handy to have too. X-Jet can be useful but I would definitely recommend down streaming for house washing. There’s no reason to have to haul around a bucket of mix and an extra hose. Down streaming is much more efficient. an x-jet is good for a stronger mix but you don’t need it for vinyl.

Others recommend the M5 Twist instead of using a j-rod. It’s just an adjustable nozzle so you don’t have to swap nozzles. You don’t have to buy everything at once. Eventually it’s good to try other options so you can streamline your process and use what works best for the way you do things.

@marinegrunt I just ordered a Jrod, and a downstream injector from Pressuretek. I’ll give them a try when they arrive. Thanks to the help of another member I now have a source for 12.5% SH. I’m hoping that will work better. Thank you for your suggestions.

It will work better for sure unless it’s been sitting on the shelf for a while, which probably won’t be the case this time of year. Check for a date on the bottle anyway. When your new injector arrives and you’re using the 12%, you’ll be able to cut it and save $ while doing so.
