I would assume most of you guys don’t have a garage setup to store your hose and hose reels all winter . Especially on a trailer . Do you just leave it outside year round ? I’m assuming you do . So the hannay type reels don’t rust ? I ask because I have seen video with other reel manufactures , that appear to have rust . Are hannay aluminum throughout with stainless fittings ?
They sell stainless and steel.
Most antifreeze has anti-corrosion properties. When you winterize your equipment it helps protect it from freezing and rusting. Regardless, a little bit of rust is normal. If you don’t use your equipment all winter it may not be a bad idea to run a light mix of muriatic acid through when you de-winterize.
Thanks : I was asking because a competitor, who happens to live a few blocks away . Tarped his trailer the last couple of years . AT least that I know of. From what I see driving by his place . The stuff is loaded with Rust . I know from my own experience that SH that sets around for 3 cold months . Is not only pretty weak to use . It also is corrosive to metal you have in the same location . I’m referring to inside a garage area. Thanks again for the tips .
SH is corrosive to metal no matter how long it sits. We store everything indoors, but I know most do not. Having your trailer sitting outside is probably the least thing to be worried about in terms of rust. Freezing is a much bigger possible issue there (depending on where you are located). You will have rust, even our tools stored on the other side of the warehouse get rusty pretty quickly
My rig sits outside all year long. I have regular hannay reels. I cover my machine and reels for the several months of winter with rubber roofing and a tarp. My rig isn’t full of rust, although there is some rust on the skid frame but that will be repainted next season.
I’ve posted pics and posted other stuff about it. I use my air compressor and blow it all out for winter, then use antifreeze. No issues so far.
