Good News!

Qe went to see the oncologist today. Looks like Jamie’s last scan have come back and we are thinking we may have gotten a hold on the cancer. We gotta go back in 3 months but doctor said everything looks good or is showing improvement. Crazy to think 4 months ago we were making much different plans.

Awesome man! My wife finished her last round of chemo the other week. Now 10 years of Tamox and a few reconstruction surgeries. Feels like a never ending process sometimes, but it’s always good when you can see some light at the end of the tunnel.

There is a light I promise. Jamie was on the same drug. The first time she had cancer. We did all the reconstruction stuff and just a lumpectomy the first time. If I could go back I would have tried harder to stop her from doing it. Almost 12 years to the day it came back. She did complete removal this time not going to take any chances. I wish you the the best of luck if you ever need someone to vent to just PM me.

Yeah, my wife ended up getting a double mastectomy because they found another spot on an mri that tested cancerous on the same side, but about 5 inches from the other 3 spots. The day before what was supposed to be just a lumpectomy, it got switched to a double mastectomy.

Tex, that port seems so overwhelming when approaching the chemo route and waiting for the surgeon to install it. I remember that event like it occurred this afternoon, so vivid is the memory. Cancer is vicious, and there seems no abatement to its unceasing charge on the human race. Nonetheless, I have so much gratitude for my team of doctors, because there is no debate about my prognosis without them.

I encourage anyone who faces cancer to be one’s own advocate, research alternatives and preventive foods and herbs that aid the efforts of the healers, get comfortable with discomfort, and don’t sweat it; you’ll either beat it or you won’t. The anxiety many experience during the battle significantly reduces the odds of a favorable outcome.

Tony, that’s incredible. Every cancer conquest is a gift from God and one that should never be squandered. We survivors have much for which to be thankful. I personally believe that I owe it to my team of healers to do what I can to make the world a better place.

Well said amigo. Thankfully, my MIL’s outlook is very positive though I know she has her worried times now and then. Unfortunately, a gentleman I know just passed yesterday from cancer. He was a good guy. Best of luck to you @MrSparkleVA. I hope you are doing well.

@DisplacedTexan how is treatment going? I have to ask how everyone else is doing I know how hard it is and sometimes people forget about the loved ones. Dont get me wrong I will never be as strong as Jamie in fact she fascinates me every day. But I know how difficult is is for the significant others

That’s the truth. Trying to raise a 3 n 6 year old, take one back n forth to school, run a business, take care of everything at the house that mom’s usually do, and be her caretaker too while recovering from each round of chemo absolutely kicked my butt…and my bank account for that matter. Top it all off, we just found out the other week that the hospital system we’ve been using this whole time stopped accepting our insurance halfway through her 4 rounds of chemo. On the the bright side, doc said she considers her cancer free.

Insurance companies suck. I truly dont know how those people sleep at night. Ours denied her PET scan till march. Oddly enough it’s the month after her deductible restarts. And to make matters worse it’s also within the same health care system she works for

Yeah, her onco said she has to do something or another to get insurance companies to pay for scans, because, I believe, it’s they won’t pay out if it’s just a checkup/preventative type. You would think they’d rather pay preventative than to pay $25k a pop or more for chemo treatments because of something that could have been caught early. Our situation was 2 hospital systems merged, and the other that took over doesn’t accept our insurance, but the one that was our original system did. Our insurance renewed in August in between surgeries and chemo, so that nice cushion we had to make it through the winter is absolutely gone. They didn’t even bother to tell us when they merged that they no longer accepted our insurance, and instead, my wife found out when she called to schedule reconstructive surgery consultation. Hoping they’ll still bill the other 2 rounds of chemo through insurance because it was an ongoing treatment at the time. At least I think that’s typically what they’re supposed to do in that situation. Beans, rice n chicken for the next 2 months for us lol

Just had her first round of chemo this week. So far so good but it did make her a bit sick. She waited to start until after Thanksgiving so she could have all the food and not have to worry about being too sick to enjoy it. I hope you guys are doing well.
