Genius or Death trap?

I was on Facebook and someone had posted this on one of the Facebook groups. I didn’t know anything like this existed. I’m not sure it would be used very often in our line of work but I could think of several times I would have rather used one instead of having to haul the scissor lift across town to change a light bulb. Has anyone ever used one?

I’d be interested to see what ladder manufacturers have to say about it. It would seem like a ladder is better supported when the top is leaning against something. It just seems like there is a lot of force towards the bottom of the ladder where it’s attached to the monkey rack. You can just see it with the way the ladder is kind of swaying in the video. I think it would make me nervous using the Monkey Rack and a cheap aluminum ladder. Fiberglass are pretty stout though. What if someone used an old wood ladder? Would it be okay or would it break near the bottom? But hey, it’s a neat idea though. As long as I knew a ladder could be used like that and, ladder manufacturers or OSHA stamped it with their approval, I’d have no issues using it. You would think he would’ve had to have some sort of safety documentation on it before being able to sell it.

That’s how I feel. The ladder wasn’t designed to flex like that and have all that weight put on the rungs either. The leverage wouldn’t be working in the ladders favor. I’ve had rungs to break before on a aluminum ladder. I just found it interesting.

I think with the right ladder it could work but we know some poor soul is going to try to use it with a fiberglass or a lower rated ladder.

I would want at the bare minimum a 350 lb rated ladder. That automatically eliminates most ladders available at home sspot/lowes.

I can see that thing showing up on https://www.reddit.com/r/OSHA/

Its creative… cud certainly see it being an option if safe ladder was used

No way that passes any safety tests. Extension ladders have the weight distributed at 3 points for a reason.
