Fueling machine safely

They say not to fuel jerry cans in bed of truck because of static electricity… How can i fuel my gx 690 in bed of truck without taking the chance of seeing myself on the news running around naked yelling with my hair on fire?? Any of you ground the machine before fueling? What do you use?

You have a bedliner? How is your machine mounted?

No liner yet but i put it on rubber pads so the metal base is not in contact with the metal bed , away from any possible sh spill , stays clean and dry and likely helps with vibration. But it does mean i gotta figure out how to fuel it safely.

Touch something metal before you fill up, to discharge static electricity. If you are really worried, ground the fuel tank to something metal in your truck, just need some copper wire and two bare metal surfaces… if you are really, really worried, carry 2 4 foot, 3/8 diameter solid copper rods with you, pound them into the ground when you want to fill up, and clip a copper wire from rod to rod. then run a copper wire from tank to rod. To ensure proper grounding, carry an ohm meter and make sure resistance on the wire attached to the tank measures less than 5 ohms. Should you not be able to achieve that resistance, pour some salt water into the ground where you placed your copper rods, as salt water is an excellent conductor and should lower your resistance.

Hilarious to visualize pounding the 4 foot poles in the ground at the gas station. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I always hold my pipe in my left hand and use right hand to hold gas nozzle. Safety first.

I’m more worried about hitting something or getting hit by someone at the gas station when I pull my truck and trailer in for fueling.
