Finding Helpers

I do sub out quite a bit of windows and use to clean them myself and my kid brother on occasion. Guess who had a clean background check from contract programming job. My own kid brother. He wouldn’t have worked without it because I tell everyone we’re ALL background checked.

What if I send employees to a job and I’m not there and one asks to use the restroom or they ask the employee to step inside to take payment? What if I hire a sex offender and at best he’s on the ladder peeking in windows? Worst case scenario decides to fall into old habits while inside?

How about this? My employee has a background in fraud or theft and a customer hands him a check with their account number on it?

I respect you for doing big things so fast. And I’m not judging anyone, but I’m also not taking the liability that they fall into their old ways.

I won’t apologize for that now nor ever.

I background checked myself once. I passed… The Navy had the feds background check me… Luckly back then there was no email or internet … By the time they got my 4 inch folder, via book rate through the US post, I was already a shellback…

Wow, Ask a question (poorly worded as it turns out) go the movies and all heck breaks loose. When I say helper I am looking for someone part time to full time. My plan is to start them on an hourly wage and then if they pan out I will put them on a salary with quarterly profit sharing. My thought here is that I need to give them enough to plan on a for a baseline and then based on performance they can make substantially more. Ultimately, they take over the trailer and we begin again.
There are a couple of really good ideas in here. I do not go into people’s houses (don’t do windows). I have an enclosed trailer, so it is the bathroom. There’s always bleach bottles and a luggable loo in there for secondary requirements.
As for ex-cons, I think it’s a great idea (huge respect for what Sparkle’s has done), so is going to a local church and looking for someone who truly needs the help and I’d like to think the church has vetted them. Temp agencies are a crap shoot. One of my son’s got into a fantastic journeyman electrician program that way BUT they hired over 20 guys when they hired him. He is one of two that made it.
Again as always thanks for the input. Heading to NC to see my son and his family at Camp Lejeune in a couple of days. Still looking for the elusive good deal on an employee and an 8 GPM machine. :sunglasses:

Got my shellback on a Westpac in '87. Proud I have it, not the most fun I’ve had. Non-skid tears up skin and clothing with equal opportunity. Throwing uniforms overboard because they are that disgusting was also not good but the certificate is framed and sitting in the office…

Yea crawling through the tunnel of garbage, eating peanut butter turds out of the head, kissing greasy fat guys stomachs. What’s not to like???

Agreed. @MrSparkleVA what I said above isn’t a dig against you. I think it’s great what you’ve done.

Helper was probably the wrong way to phrase it. This guy had been working for me since January.

Why not hire all those 99 dollar guys and kill 2 birds with one stone?

Hiring is always the worst part of owning a business. I feel for you

Thanks. I’m in DFW and there is so much work here that anyone that wants to work seems to have a job. Every place I go there is a help wanted sign…

What’s DFW? Nobody is hiring around here, well except minimum wage or part time jobs…
