Curiosity. Not important

Could a pump be mounted to a vertical shaft engine? In my recent research, I’ve found some very large vertical shaft engines and wondering why there aren’t any 5 gpm+ pumps for vertical shaft engines.

I’m not considering anything like it, but still curious as to why.

Good question…gravity?
Then again my response doesnt make sense.
Unless they could only be direct drive…
No idea

There are lot of vertical shaft cheap washers.

I can’t imagine why anyone would want to go to the hassle of connecting a belt drive pump to a vertical engine…be a fairly complex (expensive) arrangement.

My thought was that gravity makes it so the oil bath of the pump is only at the bottom and could damage the upper half of the pump.

In my brain I was thinking gear drives. I know on the small crappy pressure washers those pumps are sealed. No oil changes required often.

I dunno. Just random ponderings more than anything.
