Cleaning stained D-log?

Got a call for a home that needs cleaning that has stained D-log siding. what is d- log at DuckDuckGo

The stain is transparent -Cedar. It was originally a light stain, but has darkened over the years from age.

I’ve not been out there yet, and I can only get a satellite view on G-maps. Zillow shows nothing of value.

Needs a basic cleaning for mold, mildew and algae.

Can I just hit this with basic house wash mix (3gal bleach, 2gal water plus Elemonator. ~0.6%)? I’ve done decks with solid stain before without any issues.

I do have Sodium metasilicate on hand.

Either way, should I be able to spray and rinse? Or should this take some pressure also, like on a deck?

I would imagine it would clean up the same as any other stained wood. Are they planning to stain after? As the advice typically goes, do a small test spot and then proceed if all looks good. I’d also be cautious of using pressure, 1200 or less but start low and work up.

That’s been my thought, but the issue is: I’ve only dealt with raw wood, and solid stain- like the paint-type stain.

No idea. I did not specifically ask, nor did they mention it. The impression is that they are just looking to get it cleaned. I don’t believe it’s going on the market. It’s a 2nd property.

That was my thought. Not actually blasting it, but just getting close enough to clean…like on a raw wood deck.

I appreciate the input!

Any other thoughts?

I have not noticed much a difference in raw vs. stained in terms of “removing” the stain with a hw mix… If it doesn’t have a ton of organic growth, maybe just some surfactant to knock down the dirt/dust/cobwebs?

I’m going to head out there, likely this weekend, and take a look at it. He said it has “darkened” over the years, but I’m not sure if that’s just age, or if it’s from build up.

I may have to hit it with light pressure, but the price will just go up a bit.

Yeah, if you can’t spray and rinse, price accordingly. Wood takes time for sure….especially log cabin if all surfaces need some pressure.

Darkening - likely means they have done zero maintenance to it. SH may make it streak. Don’t know, not there, haven’t seen a pic. Just guesses.

If you want, call your local (regional) permachink. They sell all kinds of stuff for log homes. Just a word of warning, all log homes and 1/2 log homes leak when PW.

Edit: I second what @Kentucky1234 said, price accordingly. You may need to break out a brush…most likely…probably guaranteed.
