Cleaning cedar shakes with potassium salts of fatty acids

anyone using potassium for cleaning moss from cedar roofs? trying to find a mini bulk supplier so i can try some…

Old thread, but only one that came up. Interesting stuff. Seems to not suck on asphalt. Not sure if it is a cleaner or a pesticide.

Wow. How many bottles for that roof?

I’m going to go back and finish it on Thursday. One bottle on there so far, but that was months ago. It really doesn’t do anything when you first apply it. So it’s tough to know if you’re using enough. Maybe you could stretch it a lot further with experience.

Interesting.

Looks like I can’t try it out

So you only did part of the roof or did it not work on that section?

I think Bayer changed their name to “Bio Advanced”, so maybe you can look for that.

Product was recommended by customer’s roofer. I don’t wash roofs, but the (long-time) customer asked me to spray the stuff on. It’s not labeled specifically for asphalt shingles. I think it is more intended for killing moss in your lawn. But the label mentions it can be used on roofs. I contacted them and asked just to check. They said it was okay. So I went with it and sprayed the bottle on her roof. Nothing happened. Product has lousy reviews.
I didn’t expect much. We both shrugged and went about our business. Three months later, everything is completely clean and she wants the rest of the roof done.

Nice, I don’t do roofs anymore but that seems cool
Never heard of fatty acids
