Christmas lights discussion (split off from winterizing thread)

New display we added this year - old man winter. They made me take out the red light bulbs that I put in for his eyes :star_struck:

He tried to get us to give him another $800 of stuff free when we installed. Told him we’d do it for $500 since we were there
so he added that too, lol.

Are those c9’s in that tree? How much did it take?

Yes c9s with 18” spacing. Annd I don’t remember it was about 3 13gal trash bags full of bulbed wire :joy:
Just did it again this year

Beautiful. How do you estimate how many feet of c9 you need in a tree?

Measure around the tree and count how many times around the tree you will go. Also account for the top being smaller around so less lights but much more difficult when you go over 20’

Note: Working on the roof of a pizzeria while the ovens are on will make you hungry

Did our 1st light curtain today! It took longer than we thought lol

Took 2 guys about 10-11 hrs on just the curtain

This is great info. I know there is a lot of discussion here about lighting trees but I see many guys only offer house lighting and some guys even say you get white or green lights - they must be all the same color and they are still booking job like crazy.

I am noping out for now since I don’t want to install lights on the second story peaks - it looks great but seems very sketchy to me.

Looks pretty cool though

So easy (from my desk chair
). But seriously, get 1 or 2 guys who don’t mind the work (off-season roofers are a sure bet if you don’t have any on staff), and make sure you’re covered by insurance. Get them a Goat, a roof safety kit (if that’s not standard equipment for you), and maybe some Pitch Hoppers (my guys hate those), and get them trained to do the light installs
It’s selling itself this year, seriously. We can’t keep up with the leads just to enter the contact info in to our CRM just to send them a form email covering our basics (minimums, averages, “better lights than the big box stores” spiel, etc.).

It truly has been an epic year for lights sales
I’m not sure what the deal is. I bought enough stock to add as many new jobs as last year, and it’s gone after the booked jobs for next Monday/Tuesday. Bought half that much again, rented/borrowed a couple more trailers
and going to roll until the floodgates close

That is some serious work. It looks amazing! I hope they were willing to pay you what it took in effort!

I did our first light canopy at a Chick-Fil-A this year
will have to share some pics when I get some decent ones at night. That guy will be begging me to do both of his buildings in light curtains next year

How do you figure your pricing? I think we were a bit low. It was $2600 for the curtain so it came out to $40/25’ strand of mini lights. We have quite a few businesses downtown inquiring about it for next year.

I’d probably price it per strand as well. I’d have probably been at about the same # the first time around
but I’m guessing it was learned that this type of installation takes far more time than wrapping them on a bush. It looks awesome though.

Yes next year should be easier with the anchors already set. And thanks!
