I’m a member over on the window cleaning side of things, I posted this there and folks recommended I post it here too. Figure I might as well take a flyer that someone has heard this before; I’ve had my 2011 Honda CR-V in to the shop to locate a noise, no dice. Taking it back Tuesday. Had the noise for about a year but seems to be a bit louder/more frequent lately.
Will only make the noise when it’s warm/been driven 10 mins plus.
Here’s the noise, car in drive, warm, hitting the gas from a dead stop:
Here’s the noise, warm, shifting from park, to drive, to neutral, to reverse and back:
No other problems other than the noise. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
If it’s making the noise from you rocking it back and forth when it’s turned off it has to be suspension related. I would look into the shocks or struts.
I went there first, but would the suspension act up intermittently, only when warm though? The mechanic only knows the sound exists because I showed him the videos, they looked it over cold, no noise.
I would get underneath with a pry bar and check for worn bushings, sway arm links, ball joints, etc. See if something has more play than you think it should. Look for cracked or dry rotted rubber in the a-arm bushing. I think it’s definitely something with the suspension. Heat causes metal and rubber to expand so could make sense why it only does it when warm. Any good mechanic should be able to give the suspension an inspection and know what needs replaced.
Did the shop just try and listen for the noise or did they actually inspect the suspension?
Bro go to a Honda forum any problems I had with my civic back in the day was found. This is pressure washing. You’re asking people on a sight that specializes in pw and hoping that there’s some gear head on here with answers to a problem you’ve admitted you’ve let persist for a year. Here you go I’ll even do the leg work https://www.crvownersclub.com/
They inspected it, but could not reproduce the sound. (I surmise it wasn’t warm at the time, despite my telling them it needed to be.) @marinegrunt
Few reasons: Money was tight at the time, the sound was faint and intermittent, I couldn’t find anything crawling under the car myself and after scouring forums/YouTube I couldn’t find anyone with the problem, and admittedly time was tight at the time. @MuscleMyHustle
Yeah, I knew it was a flyer posting here, but also figured it couldn’t hurt. Just takes one guy who knows their stuff. Maybe I will post it there, thanks for the legwork.
I’d like to think of it as an acknowledgement over an admission. If I had the knowledge to fix it myself, I would have unquestionably. If I had the finances at the time, I would have of course taken it in. Or if it had been something clearly serious, I would have put it on credit.
But that was starting a business, I was broke as a joke and constantly pressed for time.
I’ll leave y’all alone though, thanks for the thoughts.
Don’t mind the negative comments. Regulars on here post about all sorts of off-topic stuff. There are some smart whips with a wide array of technical knowhow here.
And I find it’s a pain to always sign up to a different specialized forum each time I encounter something outside my wheelhouse. I do have memberships on Rav4 and Tacoma forums, though, since those are the two vehicles in my household. Just a thought.
@Endless didn’t mean to come off as negative, I’m just a compulsive maintainer by nature. Judging by your videos it appears you have multiple issues from the noises described. 1 being suspension when rocking vehicle back and forth, and the second being transmission related. Car stationary, foot on brake, going through gears isn’t suspension related. If it’s transmission related take into account that oil is thicker when cold, and thinner when warm, worn out tolerances will move more with thinner oil. Just a suggestion don’t order a transmission, get it inspected.
