California banning small engines

I knew you’d fit right in, Mike. Welcome, btw.

Yikes…we’ve generally got 5000# in the bed, and quite often 6000# on the hook…glad we’re not CA…yet :cold_sweat:

Now, I do like the Ford truck with the onboard generator setup, something bigger in scale could potentially power a pressure washing outfit.

I run such a small set-up, 3.5 gpm, no buffer tank, only two makeshift hose reels, wooden ladder rack, I wouldn’t need much to keep me happy. I’d give up a foot of bed space to gain all that storage in the front. My big thing is I only have the super cab and getting the SuperCrew cab would be awesome for hauling the kiddos around as this is still my daily driver truck. Also, I’ve got 46 solar panels on the roof of my house that produce more than what my family consumes. Getting that excess power to charge the truck would be my thought process.

I just read the ban applies to 25hp and less, maybe there is hope for washers.

Unbelievable… So the new igx honda line is banned as well ? It’s not zero emissions.

The sad irony there is while it has worked so far, it’s federal gov that regulates interstate commerce, if I remember my social studies from 25 years ago.

So lets say they do ban small engines, I’m sure we can figure out an Electric option…

But what about the diesel burners??

There is no electric option for 8 gpm machines, for example. Best option would be to swap your engines out for 25+ hp ones not covered by the law, buy used equipment, have your’s repaired, or just buy out of state.

Diesel burners are not engines at all and are therefore not covered.

Not gonna let you buy out of state.

the fuel inj kohler is 26.1hp, something Iike that, theh are good to go. I wonder if the real goal is aimed at portable generators.

I still can’t believe this small engine ban thing in California, it’s just unbelievable to me lol. I told my guys this morning about it, they laughed at me like a was losing my marbles, I had to google it and show them, It made my grumpiest guy laugh at 7am, now that’s an achievement.

I’m going to start building and selling 21" push mowers with 26hp engines! Problem solved, just put larger engines on everything.

Does it say that in the law? Curious because I didn’t see that in the law. Either way, it’s not like they can stop you.

I just say that using previous CA ‘bans’ as a reference. They will probably register the serial number and require you to report it every time you need to reapply for the license.

Well, it can’t be compared to their gun control laws. It has to be an apples-to-apples comparison.

Question (genuine; I honestly don’t know the answer to this):

CA requires certain emissions standards for cars sold in their state.

Can someone buy a used non-CA emissions car and register it in CA?

They even regulate sawdust. My friend in Lodi WAS a carpenter, he made beautiful furniture and various items out of wine barrels. The sawdust police told him he had to dispose of it according to what “species of tree” it came from and he eventually had to close his shop due to the suffocating regulations and permits.

Yikes. I can’t imagine trying to keep sawdust segregated by species… like, yikes.

Edit: google is not revealing anything on this, other than the recent loosening of restrictions in regard to disposing of pressure treated wood products and waste. If your friend was working with treated wood, that might’ve been the issue that caused some temporary hardship when previous legislation expired back in 2020.

This is nothing like gun control. Perhaps one day far in the future they will do that, but the new law doesn’t even prohibit buying these things out of state.

A month from now a video will leak of Newsom driving gas powered go karts with his kids since he demanded the now out of business fun park to open for his family.

I’d hate to be an arborist out there. Instead of chainsaws they’ll have to go back to the 2 man saw. That state us an absolute mess. It’s all about politics. This is a “look at me” to the far left to get ready for his future presidential run next term. No way Biden will be able to run again so Newsom is will try and run on how far left he is and can say look what I did. Even tho he has a state where people are leaving for Texas or Florida.
