Business Phone numbers

Do any of you use a Google voice number? Do you have the standard that is free or did you select the business option?

What shows up on your caller ID when making calls?

I’m using grasshopper, and have used it in other startups. Definitely worth the money imo.

Google voice was full of problems last year so I switched to Grasshopper.

 what kind of problems were you having?

I’ve been using Google voice for the last four years. No problem with it. My company name shows up as caller ID last I checked.

Google voice. My company name shows up. The free version. No major issues or desire too switch.

I use grasshopper. I have it setup to where if I receive a buisness call, my business number shows up instead of their caller ID which is nice to know so I can get in buisness mode lol. The recent calls tab tells me the customers number later when I need it for the invoice. Downside is that your personal voicemail is the buisness’s as well. So my personal says thanks for calling summit wash pros bla bla bla lol

I loved it but it started getting buggy then almost not working. I forget all the problems but calls wouldn’t come in or go to voicemail, I couldn’t text and it became unreliable so I couldn’t depend on it to run a business. I loved it before that though.

@DJPWS I have a seperate voicemail for my business on my grasshopper. A caller gets a message after first ring advising them to go to my webpage to fill out a form for an estimate. Then it says press “0” to speak to someone. After they press “0” my phone will ring and I can answer it. If I don’t answer it they go to a second where I ask them to leave a message. I love that part because I don’t get any robo calls. I use to get 2 or 3 a day now nothing. Plus my phone doesn’t ring till they press zero.

Maybe you can message me and explain how to do that because that would be great to have lol.

Yep. It’s just a matter of setting it up on Google Voice website and the phone app to make it work. Once set up properly, it works pretty flawlessly. I like how the app differentiates work calls, texts, and voice mails from my personal, so it’s easy to keep track separately. I’d pay for the service, but it’s free so even better.

Seems like they have pretty identical features. With Google Voice, you can choose to either have the business number show up or the caller’s number on your phone. On Android phones at least, it’s a different dialer app, so even when you choose to have the customer’s info, you still know it’s the business number being called not personal.

I highly recommend getting a buisness number instead of using your personal. You don’t want people knowing your personal number anyways. Keep it separate.

In my situation I’m military so I have an out of area phone number. Most people want to buy locally and work with local people so if I’m advertising my 770 number in a 816 area code, not many people would call. It’s a trust thing. So my business number now begins with the area code I work and live in.

Could you ever port that number to Google voice or even AT&T / Verizon?

Hey first impressions are very important when you are building a trustworthy relationship with a customer that puts money in your pocket lol. It’s all about the image you put out there I think.

I’ve been using godaddy and love it - $4.75 a month and has everything you need: texting, calling, voicemails, pictures, etc.
