Bat crazy!

Any body had an issue with these. Second time this year I’ve been buzzed. I’m used to wasp’s and such but I truly hate flying rats! We counted 23 behind one shutter. They were coming out like antsIMG_20181019_115811518|375x500

insert jingle…BATMAN!!!

This lady told me she thinks her neighbors are vampires because they only come out at night. I was washing their house for the painter we partner with so his crew could paint. Well… I told him about the bats and he said the last time his Mexican crew members saw bats one nearly jumped off the roof to get away from them and another nearly fell off a ladder. Apparently, bats are bad luck in Mexican culture as I understood it.

Anyway, the homeowners had to have a bunch of bats removed from their attic before they’d go paint. Apparently, it was wayyy more than 2 bats.

I have a love/hate relationship with bats. Indoors, I’m petrified of them and will squeel like a little girl if I see one.

But outdoors, I think they’re cool as heck, and some of them are really cute, too. Like flying little foxes. I’ll practically cry if I think I’ve hurt one.

This little guy flapped to the ground a couple weeks ago when I set my ladder against some loose fitting cedar shake siding he was sleeping behind. Must’ve just knocked the wind out of him. He flew away a few minutes later.

I have two bat houses near my shop and the other near my wood shed. I love bats. Not that I want to hold one or pet one but I’m always outdoors and they are the only thing that will get rid of all my mosquitos without spending a ton of money.

I’ve used bug zappers, sprays, candles and nothing works as good as bats

You know it @Grizz. Each bat can eat over 1000 mosquitoes per night.

Next year I’m going to put bat houses up. The neighbor put them up but never attracted any. Did you put anything attractant in them.

No I put one on my shop there is street light right over it. I have to most in it. And the other is on my wood shed where there is alot of bugs too. They like to be warm so put it on the south side of what ever building not the north

I’m not a mosquito and don’t want them doing a fly by around my head. I’m amazed 23 of them fit behind the shutter

Does the light hit it and keep it warm at night?

They don’t bother me. Some people are really freaked out by them. They fly around here all the time.

I think it’s funny when someone visits who’s never seen one before and it’s at night and they say “I just saw a bird”. I’m like “yeah. It’s a mini owl. They are pretty rare.”

If I say it’s a bat they sometimes freak out, but if I say mini owl they like it until we get inside and I tell them it was really a bat.

The flood lights hit the one on my wood shed but the one under my street light it doesn’t. The roof hangs over it. Just got to find the right location. If they dont feel safe they wont nest there.

Its a good attachment for when you have those Windows with bugs stuck to them.

That’s how I am with frogs if I screw with one while washing. But I go frogging a couple times a year. It’s weird.

Frogs live in tile roofs down here. There is always at least one the leaps off the roof out of nowhere and to certain death. One actually hit my wife while she was watering the plants. It spooked here and she was pissed . I on the other hand was laughing so hard I forgot i was on a two story roof.

I’ve seemed to have more bats coming out of gable end vents this year than I can ever remember seeing before. Sometimes it almost looks like hitting a beehive, as many of those suckers as I’ve had come out at once.

Thinking about the customer sitting on the couch by the window seeing you spinning and ducking while shooting them with your wand cracked me up so bad.
