Anybody use water meters?

Hi all! Does anyone rent water meters? How does it work? How much is your average cost?

Thanks!

Yes, call your city or whatever city your trying to rent ins water department. Every city and every state is different.

I’ve had one city where I had to do a 3k deposit and $10 for 1,000 gallOns

Most cities near me is a $200 deposit and $10 for 1,000 gallons

I just did an apartment last week in a small city near me where there was no deposit and it’s $10 for 1,000 gallons…

The city gave me a meter/ fire hydrant Adaptor. $50 for 10k gals used. I just talked with the water department and it was easy for them to make. I keep it with me.

Thanks! I’ll check with the city I’ll be working at. I can deal with the $200 deposit but $1K?..damn!

That must be nice!! All cities around me won’t let you keep it and have to set it on the hydrant for you.

I only use a hydrant when a place doesn’t have an outdoor water source.

Yeah, $50 would be great!! Lol

I am in a smaller town in Alabama. No rent for the meter and I can hook up to any hydrant in the area. No clue how real cities do things. Lol.

I was even given the tool to open the hydrants and explained how to turn them on.

Where in Alabama?

I’ve only used it a few times so far. When the city had me clean some of the sidewalks downtown and at some apartment complexs.

We currently have 4 meters. The deposits I have down on them range from $850-$1500. This is in DFW area. The water cost is about $4-$5 per 1k gallons

Lake Martin

That’s a nice area. I’m originally from Selma. It used to be a nice area. I spent my late teens in the Mobile area and kinda consider it home
