Any idea what this could be?

So this is my buddies balcony, I came by, DS straight 10% SH, nothing. Used my pump sprayer with 50/50 SH, nothing. Finally hit it with straight SH and it didn’t do a darn thing to it. Any idea what it could be?

maybe rust from the railings?

looks just like any algae I’ve ever seen. Are you sure you used straight SH at 10%? If it’s ferrous staining try barkeepers friend in the foam and a scrub brush.

Yeah I thought that too but it doesn’t really look like rust. I’ll apply some F9 and see what happens. Would like to take some other chems with me as well though, just in case is not rust and F9 doesn’t work.

We do a lot of stucco/EIFS and that looks just like algae.

I usually recommend this when folks are too cheap to buy F9 and it’s light rust. But F9 is the jam…

Could it be the tar from the shingles?

Thanks Brodie, I have F9, but I’ll pick some of that other stuff up as a back up. And I feel like if it was algae it would’ve came off with the SH.

mmm maybe, but wouldn’t also be on the balcony tile? its just on the stucco.

Looks like the screen enclosure I did today, just had to keep reapplying a full 12% DS, then flush with water, (x2). Seems like some buildup requires agitation with water, kinda like grease requires contact/scrubing

Never understimate the power of SH AND a stiff brush.

Thanks I’m going to try some more SH and agitation along with F9 and report back.

With 10% hit it with about a 5% roof mix, let dwell for about 10min. Repeat 3 - 4 times w/o rinsing, then rinse with medium pressure. should do it.

How old is it? I’d suggest a good coat of paint and some sandpaper. If you have tried the normal cleaning solutions…
