ALL NOOBS: this is why you are told to search and read

Let me start by thanking everyone for the experiences that they have shared with me so far that have helped me learn so much and that will continue to allow me learn to do this job professionally.

In spite of being told to search when I first asked questions, I sometimes still asked questions because there were specific things that are not always found when searching. Or, so I thought. I realize now that not as many of those specific things couldn’t have been found if I was searching diligently.

I have also noticed that asking questions that are not so basic and not common are the questions that are more freely answered and not viewed as not doing your homework and searching first. So for all you Noobs out there, spend your time reading post after post and you’ll be surprised at how much you learn by just doing that. Then ask something if you must but make sure it can’t easily be found or you know what you’ll hear. Search, search, search.

Take the time to read as much as you can and keep reading about the whole business. This forum is an incredible resource for so many aspects of this business. If you know what is really involved in operating a successful business then search for just about anything you know to be part of a business and I’m willing to bet you’ll find it here. If you think you can learn this overnight by just asking a few questions and know how this business works.

Well. You wont. You can’t.

Some of what you read still might not make sense in the beginning but it will make sense quicker by trying what you have learned and adjusting what you are doing if it doesnt work. That doesnt mean you should make a chemistry experiment out of this and mix ridiculous things and be reckless. Be sensible and think about what you are doing and have hopefully read over and over.

What this all means is to take the time to read and read and read and try to understand how this works. Dont be discouraged if someone tells you to search. It may or may not be said with sarcasm but regardless the reason you are being told to search is the same. Your being told to learn and that you wont absorb it the same way if someone just responds to your post with a few words. You’re going to have to make the effort or you will never get it right.

I’ll say that I was fortunate to find this forum before any other. I was put off at first after seeing how hard I thought everyone was treated when asking simple questions. I stepped back and just read post, after post, after post. I’ve read about 4500 posts in the last 2 weeks. I’m not bragging. I’m telling you that I get it now and understand why I was told to search. I saw many posts with people not getting it and then I saw so many where there was incredible information to read. Have you found that information yet? Have you searched for it? Read, read, read!

I also admit that I went to look at other forums to see if I was in the wrong place. I only did that yesterday. It was shocking what I found that people were suggesting to do. It’s not important to give specifics but I can tell you as a Noob writing this I know you would never hear that kind of hack stuff here. If you want easy answers like that then maybe this isnt a good fit for you but if you want the real deal, read, read, read.

Lastly, the professionals here are here for a reason. They are the best at what they do and want to be even better at it. There is a lot of passion here about doing things professionally and efficiently. I dont think you could find a better bunch of people to take advice from!

Thank you all for what I have learned so far and I apologize if I didnt get it at first and was stubborn. I’m proud to be a member here and have a chance to learn from the best!

Here’s a suggestion, should please both parties involved.

Instead of making the usual snarky ‘do a search’, make a search suggestion.

"Do a search for ‘sodium hypochlorite’ ".

As a proud PW noob, I can say with confidence this would not be offensive and would limit the ‘veteran’ to a few words.

Not how I took it at all. A legitimate suggestion to help the newbs. I always try and steer people in the right direction when advising the search feature.
