Air diaphram pump operating during cold temperature

I was wondering if air diaphram pumps can be operated during cold temperatures? I am getting into the roof cleaning business, but since i live up north i was thinking during the off season I could utilize my air diaphram pump for roof and gutter snow and ice removal using liquid calcium chloride? Is this possible, or is it going to screw up my equipment? What are your thoughts?

I do not own one and or have first had experience, but have been researching buying one. The temperature range varies by body and gasket components. Since its a roof pump most likely you have a poly body with either PTFE or Kynar gaskets. According to ARO’s data sheet it should be able to handle some freezing temps if using PTFE or Kynar, but it would not make it below freezing with poly gaskets.

I run those pumps and LOVE them. In my experience here in Michigan with colder temperatures, it’s not just the pumps that start to run slow, the compressor and all its parts slow down too, and I feel it’s hard on my equipment. If you have a way to keep it all bundled up and warm while you extend the season, or use it to remove ice, maybe you could do it, but a lot of factors there to work against AODD equipment. For roof and gutter ice removal, I would think about a hot water pressure washer. A service I offer is heat cable installation prior to the season, but that’s a discussion for another day. Good luck, post your experience should you make an attempt.
